Re: Gearbox Solenoid Change - Jerking Problem Solved - E90

How about the clutch and any rubber sealing parts??

correct me if i'm wrong

1. change solenoids
2. change valves
3. change mechatronic which is solenoids + valves (1 package)?

meaning, it's better to change solenoids and valves at the same time instead of solenoids only?

I think u don't need to if the valve body is working fine.

Re: Gearbox Solenoid Change - Jerking Problem Solved - E90

Normal interval one famous workshop in the east told me was 60/80k, 40k if you very anal about it.

Again, depends on your driving pattern, more highway can do 80k, plentiful stop and go, maybe 40-60k.

IMHO, shorter ATF change interval no harm since it can be considered pre-emptying at gearbox problems. There's nothing like a change of fresh fluids for your beloved ride anyway lol

The last time I went for servicing at The Other AD, I asked if I should change ATF. I was then at 98,000. They checked the official spec in their computer list and told me no need - ATF change only at 120,000 and suggested I wait until next servicing.

How much just for parts bro? You bought from Eng Soon i suppose?

I did my ATF 20k ago, so another 20k will go do this which equates to end 2013, if my auto trans holds up till then.

Jerks once in a while, but quite annoying esp in stop and go traffic.

canuck78,
may i suggest that u don't suck it up till end of 2013?
simply drain out the gear oil in a container and change the solenoids and cover back the oil pan and pour back the gear oil.

Re: Gearbox Solenoid Change - Jerking Problem Solved - E90

Would rather not pour back the old oil ..... But up to the individual ....

Haha, never thought about it that way but there's nothing like fresh fluids for the car!

Will go do the solenoids change soon, you did yours at WCA?

Will the valve body also kaput one fine day, or simply down to luck?

If sure gotta change, might as well do together right?

Thanks.

Re: Gearbox Solenoid Change - Jerking Problem Solved - E90

i guess it's down to individual preference and how deep is your wallet

1. why change if it's not broken ... may be can last another 20k/25k = 1 year milleage for some
2. might as well change it as precaution instead of up lorry and then change ... sibei mafan

Re: Gearbox Solenoid Change - Jerking Problem Solved - E90

Hi! that is the dilemma, change all at once or part by part...

I guess it depends on how you view costs;

1) time consideration - do you need the car all the time for errands like sent kids to school etc, also what about taxi cost etc

my personal experience is that if you have a busy schedule and need to do errand it may make sense to change related parts at same time...

having said that it is still painful to fork out the $$$$ at one go...

cheers

Re: Gearbox Solenoid Change - Jerking Problem Solved - E90

It is not down to luck, but valve body (series of clutch plates) is really due to wear and tear.

Best ask your workshop to check, they will be in better position to assess your gearbox condition.

But cost it's 1k vs 3k for parts + labour (but in JB workshop) to fix solenoids only / solenoids + valve body (full rebuilt kit).

Singapore workshop will likely cost more.

Re: Gearbox Solenoid Change - Jerking Problem Solved - E90

i think is better to let the specialists advice on whether the valve body need to change or not.they only advice me to change the solenoids only cause the valve body is ok.of course if have deep pockets can change it as well.bro zinckool mileage is close to 140000km.he also no need to change solenoids or valve body coz no problem with his gearbox.just do regular atf change.so how to gauge ??

Re: Gearbox Solenoid Change - Jerking Problem Solved - E90

Thanks all for the kind advise.

Reason for asking is because i just got my ride, left with 3.5 years to go & most likely (unless tio grp 1 Toto) will drive till COE expire. Since i'm gonna take it for another few years down the road & i'm sure that the valve body will die on me one day, why not i replace it for once when i'm replacing the solenoid, which will save me some time & labour charges.

Of course if it's due to heng~swey cases, than i'm definitely trying my luck.. :p

I agree with u,
I am positive that my valve body is still in good condition thus able to last a good period.
In any case the valve body breaks down, I simply just replace the valve body and additional 7L of gear oil, reuse the oil pan.

Re: Gearbox Solenoid Change - Jerking Problem Solved - E90

Hi guys, need some advise, I realise when I travel to 3rd gear at 1500rpm, my car starts to jerk but when I release my accelerator & increase to 2000rpm, the jerk gone. Issit just 1 solenoid kaput??

Re: Gearbox Solenoid Change - Jerking Problem Solved - E90

I got the exact same symptoms just release the pedal and press again it will go off, happen only when the engine is cold though...my mechanic says the solenoid can last for quite a while, suspect only 1 or 2 is faulty out of the 6 pces..well my ride is 8 yrs old, i will only fix it when necessary.....
