General servicing

Hi

My E60 is approaching end of warranty soon and I intend to keep the car long term.
I'd like to ask how do you know what needs to be serviced/replaced? BMW servicing is usually condition based servicing meaning to service whenever the onboard computer tells you to. But the onboard computer doesnt tell you to replace engine airfilter or replace air cabin filter until one day I did a bit of reading and found out the aircabin and engine filters were so dirty and when I replaced them, both the engine and ppl in the cars could breathe easier.

Do the site sponsor workshops have a complete interval based service where I know what needs to be replaced and by when? If yes, which one?

Thanks in advance for any info that you provide.

Re: General servicing

Go to Munich and tell them you want to do a pre warranty-ending thorough check. And ask them to change whatever necessary and under warranty. Give them enough time... like one whole day.

Re: General servicing

Another option... send your car to TWM and ask them to do a pre warranty inspection. They will check your car "upside-down." Then go to Munich and tell them you want everything rectified (whatever can be done under warranty.)

Re: General servicing

Thanks Mapleleaf, I intend to do exactly as per your first suggestion before warranty expires. I was thinking about the post warranty period.

Re: General servicing

Just to share. I sent my E60 to Munich for pre-warranty ending check one saturday morning as my warranty expires in early Dec. Done in 2 hrs and told me everything in tip-top condition. I am abit skeptical whether they really go thru a thorough check.
Maybe a better solution is to try Mapleleaf 2nd option checks at TWM and then go back to Munich to claim warranty if needed.

TWM would have a vested interest to do a thorough check.

After checking, then you decide later (when your warranty is abt to expire) how many years OEM warranty you want to buy. No need to decide there and then.

BTW, I did not con TWM into giving me a free check up hor. I bought a 5-year warranty for my E60.

If you are interested, PM me for details on getting a discount (several of us took a group-buy two months back).

I took a 5-year with TWM at $2300 (about). I know I heard alot of TWM bad service but my experience with them (has three family cars with them) so far was good.

On the contrary, my experience with PML was bad bad bad bad bad. To rectify a few faults took me five time in PML, each time inside for two to three days.

Any where else you go...cant be worse them PML.

That depends on your "relationship" with them lor. It can be the extreme positive relationship, or it can be the extreme negative style. Both way works. I served them Notice of Demand by registered mail. Need I say more?

Re: General servicing

I just went through my service booklet and it's empty! What are the chance that every time the previous owner bring in for servicing but didn't bring the booklet?

Re: General servicing

pml don't update the booklet liao, everything is computerised.
plug in the key fob and the entire service records are listed in the computer system including services, repair works and warrranty claims.
