Have anyone test driven this E36 320 Coupe?

Re: Have anyone test driven this E36 320 Coupe?

more than 10yrs car i think a 320 coupe shld have less depreciation
compare to a 318iS.. maybe i am wrong..

Re: Have anyone test driven this E36 320 Coupe?

The dealer had contacted me quite some time back, after seeing my post, searching for an E36.

He had initially wanted S$32k for the car and when i requested for the car to be inspected before i made any offers, he rejected it immediately.

Honestly, the price is way too high and for the prices that they are asking for, I might as well buy an E-46....

This particular 318iS was an repo auction car awhile back. The auction closed at around 18k if I remember correctly. Condition was terrible and a restoration will probably take another 7k - 8k tops. Whether u trust the dealer to have done a good job restoring it is another matter.

Dude,

it's an old car. No matter what, there's gonna be wear and tear parts to replace.

I just got mine today and after an evaluation at J4C, many of the joints, seals, etc have to be changed cos they are all worn out..... probably have to spend abt 2k or so....

What's most important is the engine, gearbox, body.........

If you do not want to have this kind of headaches.....buy a jap car...

My 2 cents,

Ray

change shock absorber, spring (lowered), brake disc & pads and wheels...

safety first mah!! will set u back a few Ks but last u many years, only if you do not know the history of this car...

I am aware of that but you are wrong to say 'buy jap car'. I am just pointing out the background of this vehicle. Alot of us here had discussed about this car before and weighted the cost of a complete rebuilt.

The issue is, it ended up with a dealer and whether did they bother to 'shower' her with love and do a proper restoration is a big question mark. So anyone buying it need to consider that they may have to set aside time and money for the job....

Re: Have anyone test driven this E36 320 Coupe?

Hi guys,

Thank so much for all your feedback. Have seen the car & it's really too expensive for a car of such condition. i thought it is also quite bad under the bonnet too.

Cooling system. If the rest of the car is that bad, the cooling system will be terrible. Hot country, lotsa traffic, over-heated engine, cracked head - do I need to say more?

Mine was in far better condition, but still - 1st thing I did was new water pump, new radiator (whole thing), new top & bottom hoses, new thermostat. Peace of mind.

Re: Have anyone test driven this E36 320 Coupe?

Dear Bro,

I am here to sare abt this coupe.. Actually this car was bidded off at about 21K.. I when to see the car too and it wasnt anyone's dream to own it useless you are ready to fork off a few ks to do it up.. but come to the point again.. the engine and the gearbox are the main concern.. if the dealer do not wish to send it for a check.. i think there is some doubts there..

THe dealer had mentioned that the car had belonged to his friend who is very particular about his cars.....but after viewing it, I'd beg to differ.....

Re: Have anyone test driven this E36 320 Coupe?

hi bro, if the car no. plate is 9X8 then its the car i went to view.. but maybe the previous owner is the dealer's friend.. But just be safe, bring the car to your mechanic and ask him to go thru to locate any damages before you commit with the dealer.

FYI, I once took a car for an inspection with the AA, and they couldn't even tell me it was a repo that's been crashed! So my take on "inspections" is - they can only really tell you what your own eyes can already see, or what is really very bad already & would require immediate replacement (e.g. noisy gearbox bearings or split steering arm boots). They can't tell you what will fail in 3 weeks coz the car has been abused & neglected.

IMO there's still no substitute for buying a well cared for car from an owner. Costs more upfront but saves you a lot of time & money in the medium-term.

Re: Have anyone test driven this E36 320 Coupe?

i went to see this car at the yard... sad shape... but they seem to have done a good job sprucing up the exterior...which is usually cheaper to do than the interior.

FYI, Inspections at AA is useless. You've gotta bring the car to a mechanic who KNOWS abt the BMW's...

Brought mine to J4C and they found out A LOT OF stuff.....

AND BTW, i've already bought another black 320, who happend to be going into the workshop to do all the wear and tear fixes tomorrow, and NOT the 9X8 coupe at Marina...

Cheers,

Ray.
