Hit and Run

Bros,

Just got squashed by big bully cement mixer this evening. Turning right at a cross junction in Bishan on the inner lane, big bully didn't want to keep to his lane. When I kept to my lane, purposedly crushed my left side even as I gave way to him. Mirror broke, fender dented and left front rim got severely scrapped with a loud "grinding" sound. I guess he wanted to show who's car was tougher! It was really deliberate as he did not stop until he was sure there was damage. Could not believed what happened! Horned very loudly many times, the cement mixer just kept going, refused to stop. Zoomed in front of him horning and horning, but he horned back and it looks like he'll bump me like you see in the movies. Could have followed him till he runs out of petrol, but then what? He'll probably come out and punch me or something. With family, so just took down the number. His company on the cement mixing barrel proudly showing "Alliance Concrete Singapore Pte Ltd". Decided to give up and went to the nearest Police Post to file a report.

Came home, called MSIG and you know what? When I got through, once the girl find out it's a bimmer, says she can't help. Call PML tomorrow during office hours. Never asked if we were injured etc. Just coldly repeated and repeated the same thing. Absoltely no offer of assistance as if PML was the insurer. No advice to file police report etc. If I drive a cheap car I believe that she'll help me. (Thanks MSIG, great service!)

Maybe my brothers here can help? In such situations, if I bring it to PML, they'll charge me a bomb and if the police bo chap, I'll end up paying for everything. Should I go to non-PML body shops? Appreciate your advice. Never got hit-and-run before. Thanks!! (very sad. SKF plated F30) :(

Re: Hit and Run

very traumatic! are you ok?

mine is insured by pml/msig too... sigh.

Re: Hit and Run

police would not intervene. you can file a police report but all they would say is got evidence ? even if have evidence - they will ask you to get your lawyer to file civil claim.

you filmed it or got witnesses ? If not - expect your premium to increase next year if you are claiming.

Re: Hit and Run

I feel for u bro, sway to meet this type of idiot. I think we really need to put in-vehicle cameras to record all these to protect ourselves during accidents or thefts. Did u have a recording or did yr passengers snapped pics? I think should call the company up and lodge a complaint to his boss that if don't want to settle amicably then will blow this big, in the event, the possibility of tarnishing their company name

Re: Hit and Run

Got witness nearby? Or caught on camera by some car cam?

Can appeal thru Facebook or stomp etc to see if a Samaritan captured the incident.

Re: Hit and Run

No in car cam. What are the chances Traffic police will help? If police only wayang then better I send to outside repairer. Anyone with advice?

Re: Hit and Run

Hi Bimmerman,

I believe based on what you have written,
PML is actually the authorised workshop to send your car in for accident claims and repairs where the insurer, MSIG had advised you to go to.

PLEASE do not go any outside workshop to save cost where the workshop is not under the named list of authorised workshop assigned by your insurer, MSIG.

If you have any injuries, please do get a medical check up and keep all records for future claims against the driver.
Any MC for 3 days of more, the truck driver MUST make an accident report and will be recalled to the traffic police station by the police for such a report.

This is a case where it's your claim against the truck driver.
Please file your accident report together with the repairs and medical claims if any and let your insurance company claim against the driver's insurance.
Since it's your story against their story, you most properly need to first claim against your own insurance for all repairs and pay with your own money for the excess fee first and till you successful win the claim against the truck driver, the full sum will be compensated by the truck driver's insurance and NCD will return to as previous discount.

Do note that you only have a 50/50% chance for a side by side impact unless you can prove other wise. High chance the result is 50/50 against each other’s repair.
This is just my 2 cent’s worth. Please correct me if I am wrong in any sharing.
Call me direct tomorrow should u need any help. I was a car broker before I become a real estate agent. Will do my best to advice u and hope u repair and move on.

Re: Hit and Run

That's great advice. Thanks. The policeman who took my report said hit and run is very serious offence. Good thing he hit and run, so he has to answer why he did not stop. That takes his credibility away. I'll call PML tomorrow first thing. MSIG could at least be helpful, not read out a script like a recorded message, that's my point. I'll update you bros of what happen. Test of our system of justice. Good case study but wished it was someone else! Appreciate the offer bro. That's the BMW-sg spirit!

Re: Hit and Run

Additionally,
Should u want to just pay and repair at a lower cost with outside workshop,
This also means you are not gonna claim against the truck driver and not reporting the accident.
by doing so, u might get into another situation as the insurance company require all drivers to report any accident within 24 hours, should the truck driver reports the accident to claim against u and u didn't, then it's very hard for your to justify your claims in the future.

I feel for you too bro. Happened to me before, about a year back with my previous vehicle. Van was turning right ( i was turning right as well), he didnt keep to his lane and swerved out to my lane when i was making the turn with him. I jammed my brakes and kept horning, but unfortunately he was fully ignorant of the fact that he was drifting, and he scraped my right fender. What was worse was that he tried the 'hit and run' as well. Zoomed in front of him, jammed brake and got out of the car. I sort of knew if i allowed him to get away it would be a lost situation for sure.

Re: Hit and Run

sue that driver man or company...

Yup. Once take picture all, evidence taken, the pest company that owned the van called me the next day to offer compensation for a private settlement. 8)

Re: Hit and Run

Thought of that too, but against a cement mixer? I got a lot to lose with my family inside. Will call the company tomorrow. Thanks hor!

i second that..
if you don't see good chance to claim against him, pls don't as the record will go against you in future premium loading irregardless of who is at fault.
the damage probably cost $2-3K to repair.. this is cheaper than insurance premium load you going to get in years to come should the record is not in favor of you.

Hit and Run

TS, I had a minor accident before and claimed against third party thru PML/MSIG. Process was straightforward and quite painless. You are now faced with a dilemma. If u go to thru the same avenue and outcome doesn't go your way, u will face insurance loading.

Perhaps u can also explore repairing the car yourself and keep repair costs down by going to outside workshop. Maybe a quotation could help u decide? I would say if repair is above 2-3k, then u probably be better off claiming insurance and take your chances. If below that, u can consider biting the bullet.... or not.

Moral of the story.... get a video cam for your car people.
