Was the mileage low when you got the car? Did u factor in the price for the soon to be 'botak' tyres? And things usually start to happen at around 3-5 years....so u might like to factor that in as well.

Nothing beats the feel and smell of a new beemer!

Mileage 60k. So abt 20k per year. Very reasonable. I will be very sceptical about those cars that drive only 8k to 10k per yr. I won't buy.

I was given almost new run flat tyres by my SE. Good for another 30k.

I have bought, feel, smelt and sold a new car before. I won't do it again. Nothing beats the feeling of selling a brand new car after 2-3 yrs. I feel like slapping myself and knocking my head on the wall. Like I have mentioned, my car's 1st owner bought from PML for about $190k after less(List price at that time abt $210k), I bought at $97k, so means PML took in the car at abt $90k or so only. So the 1st owner lost $100k in 3 yrs. Repeat this one more time for another car and effectively he lost a 3rm HDB.

Yes wear and tear sure got, thats why I took a few months to look around for the best and do my homework. Thats why I bought from Premium Selections for their 1 year PML warranty.

Btw for

Hmm, this is my personal opinion. I may be wrong..

Driving only 8000km mileage or less per year I assume the owner got 2nd car, so parks his car for six days and drive one day(based on 52 weeks * 150km= 7800km). After a long week of no-use, the engine is dry as all engine oil have slowly flowed back down to sump. As we understand that 99% of engine wear takes place during start up, I believe there is always alot of wear n tear when the engine is started. Start dry engine repeat 52 times a yr for X number of yrs = Lots of wear.

Compared to daily used, the engine is always well lubricated since we only park a few hours daily. Although the engine is started many more times, it is still better than starting a dry and cold engine.

I experienced this when I was riding a bike many yrs ago and you can hear a bike's engine much clearer. When I start the engine daily, the engine is always smooth. When I start it after 1 to 2 weeks of parking, it sounds very rough and got tinking sound.

Of course there may be a very small chance the odometer has been altered. Also for a person to drive so damn little then sell away 2-3 yrs later for half price? No logic leh.. Could there be a problem with the car, always in workshop, owner finally fed up then sell...

I drive 35k km per year. I think I can hit 8k in

Re: Honest Opinion Pls Bros....

Guys, decided to give it a pass. Didnt have a good feeling about the deal as Mr. Robert Tan seems a little mysterious. My doubts were accentuated by the following circumstances;

a) On Sunday when i called, he was very eager to drive the car down at any location that I'll be at. Was told there were two transfers and prevly car was registered under Dad's company. Now Elder borther(owner of car) is in China doing business and thus have no use of the car.

I mentioned that the building at the background looks like one at Chin Swee rd, and i realised that On Manday they changed the picture to a different background, albeit it being ain another building not too far off. Why so secretive i asked myself.

b) When I checked the boot of the car on Sunday, there was nothing but a car canvas cover dumped at the back without even being folded. Gives me the impressio that the car was covered up. Maybe due to just being polished, maybe something else.

c) so much cover up on the actual owner, that i begin to wonder his/her background.

Anyway, glad i started the thread, Didnt realise that a better deal exist in the PPSL. Wasnt barking on that tree at all. I guess I'll contibue with my homework first......

Anyone knows where the head unit can play MP3? If not, any solution? I don't wish to buy the Ipod connector.

Thanks

Hmmmn...interesting assumptions u make bro. Well thought I would just take a few minutes to dispel your hypotheses using my own personal experience.

My wife drives her car to work every weekday. I sometimes use her car on weekends (grocery marketing, kids' tuition class, etc). Even been up to KL once. Her car registered Nov 2006. Mileage is < 18,000 kms. My point is, low mileage not necessarily means car is only used once or twice a week.

I used to change cars abt every 15 months (just an average). Why? Just itchy backside lah. I am into my 10th car now. Turned over a new leaf and has been driving my E90 for 3+ years now. My worst loss... bot a new Renault Megane Scenic and sold after 11 months and lost $40k. Nothing wrong with the car.... In all the ownerships, only kena one real lemon  . And that's partly cos the car was 13 years old so expected to be a bit lemon-ish.. Anyway, my point, ppl change cars for many many reasons...not necessarily cos it's a lemon.

Enjoy ur 525. Great car and I think u paid a fair price.

Re: Honest Opinion Pls Bros....

Yupz, noticed it C3. The car is now marketed at $10 000 more. Mr. Rbert Tan is a used car sales man and sold it to a dealer? now it's even more interesting. He was willing to let it go at $117k( according to him) , but now it's marketed at $128K. So i really coulnd figure our what was going on. Claimed that PML offered his Brother $105K for the car, thats why he decided to sell direct. Anyway, the car had a comsumption reading of 14.8 for the two days that i viewed it. He said it was 'chiped' up to 255Bhp. Anway, I didnt want a souped up 525, other that cosmetics improvements.

Fishy indeed :whattheh: Maybe if we call the new dealer, he will say he got it from a female expatriate called Rebecca Tan who stays in Havelock Road and keeps the car in good condition!

Nabe, make us dulan, we at night go and tear down the rims and bodykit, ha ha ha. :sneaky:

guys...don't stop there...i actually put a dep on the car last week...and i really want to find out more and have no idea where to look. Have a inspection check at PML this week. made quite an impulsive decision and i'm banging my head now - ppl are buying cars like crazy - what nonsense of a recession! Also PML refuses to give me any info and records of the car (which is probably useless anyways) unless i'm the actual owner. LTA says they cannot give me any info of the previous owners. Gaz, any thoughts if i want to pursue this further?

Was told by someone at the premium used that an STA check is useless...confirm will pass one.

car has 3 owners. i'll be the fourth....when i sell the car locally the next guy will be the 5th!

its such a swee car though....and i tested it, been visiting / testing it almost everyday since i saw it. I know for a fact now i paid too much for it too...

any advice from the experts here??? Help!

Re: Honest Opinion Pls Bros....

Bro i also looking for a used 2-3 year old 525. Can you provide me the contact u buy from so that i can call to check if they have any. Thanks!

Bro, why not pay a token deposit and ask to bring the car to a trusted workshop for checking (see our sponser site)? The most they will charge you is a token sum.
I don't know, but I don't trust STA or VICOM to do a very good job. Normal observation like got accident or not, may they can tell you. But there's more than meets the eye in a beemer....

Re: Honest Opinion Pls Bros....

if the car is chipped up to 255bhp...will i suffer later (and not just on the gas?) will this affect the overall resale value. The dealer did not tell me till i found out about it on this thread....

Could this have anything to do with the engine having those reddish stains mentioned earlier? Will the engine blow up on me?!

Sending it to PML for a full check (this should be better than a regular workshop i hope?)...love the car - but a lemon Beemer is something i cannot afford now :\ especially with all the history no one seems to have abt the car...

Re: Honest Opinion Pls Bros....

Actually, I think sending in to ext. BMW specialist workshop to check might be better...

PS: Nice Unicron avatar. :D

Re: Honest Opinion Pls Bros....

The only record PML had for the car is one servicing done last year June with recorded mileage of about $20 000. The car's original licence plate is SJsomething54. The previous ownerretained that plate, thats why u cant get any record from PML if you quote them the current icence plate.

The car is powerful indeed, as I've test drove it. They must have probably cleaned those weird engine stains that were all over the engine bay. Anyway, I notice i slight crack on the front AC lip somewhere in the middle, probably due to humps as the car is nicely lowered. That should confirm if we're all talking about the same car. Hope my info help.

Re: Honest Opinion Pls Bros....

in addition to license plate no, do pml record the engine chasis no during servicing ?
