Actually, like spam emails... some of these SMS marketers use the "UNSUB" replies to fish out active mobile numbers. So by replying "UNSUB" you're actually telling them that the mobile number is in use by someone.
Best recourse is still to lodge a complaint with IDA... and hope they're actually working

Right! IDA! Let me tell u bros a TRUE story here. happen to me last year in IDA Suntec office.
I need to pay radio license fee for my 2 way radios in my office. due to dept budget issue, I cant pay in time. so....when the budget came in, we tried in vain to pay online via their website. So....logically thinking, the best way is to go down to their office personally right??? Story here goes......
We went down to the IDA office, went to the reception, told the receptionist our story and she told us to wait and someone will be with us shortly.
In came this old aunty with a intern in tow holding a file. she asked us what is our probelem and I told her. she then said you can pay online. Told her I tried but cannot. Since I am here can I pay over the counter instead? She said and i quote!!!! "sorry you have to pay online".
GRRRRRRR i told her again, that I am facing difficulty paying online. "ok.... do you have a common machine which I can use and you show me how to pay online?" She replied "sorry our machines are confidential and we cannot lent you".
GRRRRRRRRRR..I said, "i know your machine are confidential and I also dun wanna use them. BUT..DO YOU HAVE A COMMON MACHINE THAT I CAN USE?" she then said dun have.
FINE. I asked her then how can I pay my license then when i am having online payment issue? She replied very fast. "You can also call this hotline and they will be able to help you"
No idea why but I was thinking something is not quite right. So I asked. "ok. if i call that number, who is gonna answer my call?" She replied very fast again --------"Me La"
GRRRRRRRRR. Wapiang eh. My blood super boil liao and I start raising my voice at her and all the visitors were looking at us. "I have already told you my problem and you wan me to leave your office, go out, use my mobile and call you at your desk so that you answer my phone call and then help me? DO I LOOK BLOODY STUPID TO YOU OR ARE YOU TOO LONG IN YOUR JOB!!!!!" If this is the way you work....I am very worried abt IDA ....esp when you are mentoring a intern.
The intern look shock and lost. The receptionist was there all the while and finally she said she will get someone else to call me with my problem.
I left the office fuming mad and wrote a nasty long email to the IDA manager who I liase with previously when applying for my radio license. It really pissed me off knowing that that idiot will be getting 3-6 mths bonus.
In the end, there were some exchange of emails and i finally paid my license fee. Guess how. But simply writing a cheque and mail it over to IDA!

I do not get much SMSes but I have received over a thousand cold calls to my home number by agents and their fellow felons asking me whether I want to sell my property despite me telling them a thousand times I do not have any interest in buying, selling or renting out my property. The top nuisance call is from ERA and I have blacklisted that darn company for life. One of them claimed that SingTel sold them my number. I am waiting for my SingNet contract to expire before terminating both the SingNet broadband and SingTel fixed line. I hope these unscrupulous idiots are eaten by dogs.

I also get about 4-5 smses for property launches and what not and was damned fed-up. After yesterday's announcement that CEA is stepping up the control over these agents, I simply replied to them with the following message, "Pls stop advertising your properties or I'll report to CEA."
Hope these spam smses will stop.

Yea, this 'report to CEA' trick does work... Once my friend, who stays in condo, saw a sticker pasted in the lift... it says 'xxx condo specialist, sell high, pls call Mr ???... My friend used his hp and took a picture of the sticker... Lodged an official complaint to CEA and the agent kana... The agent can be charged with trespassing and vandalising private property...

No use one ler, tats why I didn't bother to call or SMS back as they are using those free Singtel SMS servers to send mass SMSes. Until some MP or maybe MM Lee kenna these spam SMSes will we see government clamp down on these kenna-raped-by-dog people.
