Idling speed unstable - E90

Hi,

Was at the meetup 2day and asked a few people (incl E90 drivers) if they encoutered the same problem, but no luck. What happen is that the RPM needle was not stable, moving up and down (+_ 100 rpm) when in idle mode, with and without aircon. When I am stationary in 'D' mode, the needle would move up and down as well. However, I did not feel the any chanages of engine performance, vibrations or noise.

Spoke to PML on the phone - he's not sure what is the cause so I guess I have to leave the car at the workshop again. In talking to BVO during an oil change, he suspect that its the V-Power that may have cause problems for the engine - too dry. BVO suggest that I switch to normal 98 octane petrol and monitor for a few tanks before taking next action.

Car still stock - was thinking of volt stab and KNN filters but guess I will wait till this issue is sorted out first. Anyone has similar problems, experience or advise to share?

i had this problem on my E90 also, RPM needle was not stable, on day 1 when i collected my car, told the PDI guys about the problem, they check with the computer plug into the car, found nothing wrong.

thot the RMP was not stable, the car was ok (no vibration at all). after driving the E90 for 2 weeks the problem was gone. not such problem after that.

my guess is that you need to let it run in 1st. if problem still there guess is best ask them check again.

I'm driving a new 523i and have been using V-Power since day 1 for around 2 months. No problem with the problem you described.

Re: Idling speed unstable - E90

tbt - My E90 was run-in already. Got the ride in Jul and now clocked 12k already. It was solid all the time until last week. Thanks anyway. Will let it run for a couple of weeks and see how.

Mark - Have always used V-Power on every car, no problems. Same for E90 since Jul. Problems just started only.

Janson - heard from guys at the meetup that you sold your ride? Yes, still having problems with wipers, wind noise and new ones like the unstable rpm. But these are nothing compared to what you have gone thru. Hope that you have a good resolution from PML.

Thanks All for the concern and advise.

Re: Idling speed unstable - E90

Yes I was there till about 6 pm. Sure saw many new E90s there last weekend. So far, I am relatively happy with Kg Arang (Paul) in terms of responses. He's on leave so I gonna wait till he returns before making arrangement for my ride to be checked. continue to push them and don't let them off too easily. You deserve a brand new E90 or a hefty discount (at least 30K) off the price for your replacement car. Considering the stress and wasted time, I think that's the min PML can do for you. Good luck.

Re: Idling speed unstable - E90

If the idling problem has been experienced in many cars then obviously someting is wrong...Definitely hv to send in the car for check.

But if u dont wish to...try VR Plugs and see the difference.
Having said that, I dunno if there's any for E90 models yet

Re: Idling speed unstable - E90

Re: Idling speed unstable - E90

Hamz - good to see you at the forum too. Like I said previously, E90 is awesome driving machine but its not ultimate and no where near the perfect car that we all sought after. Lower your expectations a little here and there and you will be okay. Also pray very hard that you don't end up like my dear friend Janson.

Forum is a good place to share experience and vent anger. You get lots of info before your purchase. That's good as many did not do enough reserach before committing (like myself). On the other hand, people tend to say more when something goes wrong. Bare in mind that there are many other happy E90 drivers out there who are just enjoying their ride. My advise to you - do as many test drive as possible to know what you are getting into. I went for a test drive with a friend and the test car had rattling and wind noise as well. Once you have signed on the dotted lines, then pray a lot so that you don't end up with a lemon. cheers.

Re: Idling speed unstable - E90

TripleM - saw some bros fitting VR plugs into the E46 at the meetup. Don;t know how was the result. I am keen if its available. But hesitate to do anything engine related (air filter, plug and exhaust) as PML is going to blame me for the erratic RPM. Anyone who have tried VR on E90 (320i), do share experience.

I reached there ard 5plus together with another two E90. too bad we didn't call each other.. haha~~
Ya, Paul is quite a nice guy in terms of responses but not in any position to decide on certain matters~~ sigh~~ yes, i did requested on that.. Jeffrey Lau offered me a 5k discount early Nov and i declined ! he said that he will get back to me on the 17th when the director is back so he will have a back up to give me a better price but till now i didn't received any calls from him and he has been ignoring me calls since 29th.. sigh~~ damn pissed !!
anyway i've given up on my car and their poor attitude .. guess this is the way Pml work. feign ignorance when comes to big problems like mine. who knows i'm not the only one who suffer such treatment.
i will still give them some time or i'll just sell it away, suffer the loss and give them some free publicity for sure..

Re: Idling speed unstable - E90

Janson - 5k is too low for all the troubles you go thru and the loss in depreciation. I would recommend not to sell yourself and let PML/BMW off so easily. PML will lose more because of the bad publicity. Press on and good luck. Yes, next meetup, let call each other. We have chat on phone and forum but have never met. Almost like modern day pen pals.
