The challenge would be the electronic sensor(should it exist) between model, and durability of the mehanical gear + bearing of modifying a 335i(3.08) to 320i(3.64) as the higher torque of the turbo engine produce more stress to the physical modified gear.
The extend of this modification could allow extreem wheel diameter upgrade to 21" due to larger outer wheel diameter compensation.

1.6L 3 cycl F30 318i? :p

Just doesn't make sense for 318i to have shorter final drive.

Agree with you.

If both 320& 318 have the same N46 engine, strange that the ratio is different and against the trend if we plot the gear ratio from 335->316.

Trickery to make the same engine seem more powerful? or trickery to make the 318i seem more fuel economical?

i suspect BMG AG purposely calibrate 318 pick up & low speed better for city drive.
if not, how to sell?
318 low speed > 320
320 high speed > 318

I thought the taller gear ratio should be improving pickup vs top speed? in that case 320 pick up should be better...
