Infamous jerk before stop

I am experiencing the "jerk before stop" as well as slight jerk during gear changes from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. However, when engaging reverse or changing from P to R, or N or D, there is no jerks. Only when driving and stopping.

Reading the forum, many with the "jerk before stop" had the problem resolved changing the mechantronics/valve body. Changing ATF seems to be an interim fix but the problem seems to return after that. I read some bros also mentioned changing the solenoid.

I would like to ask if changing the valve body/mechatronics also includes changing the solenoids or are they different. Also, is the problem due to the solenoid or the valve body?

Thanks in advance :)

For my case is...

When morning cold start...the first wait at traffic light will give me a jerk after I release brake paddle...

Issit same as yours bro?

Re: Infamous jerk before stop

If you change a brand new valve body/mechatronics, yes if comes with new solenoids.

Re: Infamous jerk before stop

Haha!

Before you anything hasty and spend all that hard-earned cash, go get a 2nd opinion from r2d.

he's resolved the issue for much much less.

Re: Infamous jerk before stop

Hi Bro, if I could add in a few cents worth of sharing. Your "jerking" is largely due to SENORS issue. Check on ur TB sensor, this might be the ROOT of your problem. You will be surprised.

I had this issue for a long time in my old car only to find out much much later that it was all about the car sensing when you're "stopping" the car but actually fact your car is rolling to a stop... it sensed that it's stopped so your car ECU dropped gear for you automatucally.

Let me guess that you're a feather feet driver...

Re: Infamous jerk before stop

The gearbox basically is consist of mechanical (gear) and megatronic. So the gear normally will not wound out at 100k mileage. If those WS quote changing the whole GB is basically BS. Most of the time change the solenoid and valves body will solve the problem and it cost 4k most depend on the WS you go. Those at the east and Sin Min are charge more ex than the famous WS in the West.

Re: Infamous jerk before stop

Can also do a re-adaption. It works for me. Francis from JB workshop did it for me.

Overhaul Transmission - Sep 2006 E90 320 PFL

Yes, my mileage is above 100k. One workshop said I can either repair the valve body, which is about $2k or replace it for $4k. I'm thinking of the latter since I intend to use the car for the remaining 4 years (fingers crossed)

No. The jerk happens before the car comes to a complete stop during braking. Like when changing from 2nd to 1st gear.

Thanks. I'll seek a second opinion. A friend who owns a beemer also recommended another workshop, which is nearer. I may give it a try or maybe go to R2D.

Cheers :)

Not sure about feather feet, but yes, I try to roll to a stop when I've time to brake gently. Else I may end up with sea sickness :p

If its just cleaning TB, that's not a bad. hopefully the workshop can identify its TB or they will just claim valve body and I get hit with a hefty bill.... :(

Re: Infamous jerk before stop

Might or might not be your gearbox.

For a more 'personal' approach, I would recommend R2d.

rodney will sort it out.

Could just be resolved with just an ECU reflash, or could also be transmission problem - worn out clutch resulting in clutch slippage.

either ways, get a second opinion for peace of mind if you intend to keep your car for another for 4 years.
