Intercooler For 335i

Re: Intercooler For 335i

definately a must have if u upz the boost or track vigorously!!!

the stock intercooler looks too puny......

Re: Intercooler For 335i

hanor hanor, my science teacher say GruppeM air is virgin air. After they kena compressed by turbos they lose their virginity n become hotter so they must be intercooled.

BTW can put a bar fridge inside? Colder....:lol2:

Re: Intercooler For 335i

Racing Dynamics and RPI Intercooler are the same. Looks good but performance reviews not out yet by those e90post users yet. Think it should be quite good.

Re: Intercooler For 335i

This is my lay man understanding:

For turbo engines, it is the exhaust gases that spools the turbocharger. As the exhaust gases spool the turbo, air is compressed into chambers. However, exhaust gases are very hot so the entire turbo heats up and so does the intake air that it compresses. Hot air expands and the density of molecules is lowered so not so effective combustion. To solve that, the air that is compressed needs to be forced through the intercooler to cool the air down thus also increasing the density of molecules. When this compressed and cooled high density air is ignited, combustion is better, thus more power. So the theory is that the efficiency of the intercooler in cooling the compressed air does affect the power of turbo cars.

Anyone, please correct me if I am wrong. Cheers!

bro, both items serve different functions but same goal - that is to let engine get more cold air.

Gruppe M is basically just a air filter which takes in cold air as it is placed in a way where yr car is moving, it takes in colder ambient flowing air.

this intercooler cools yr compressed air produced by your turbo, just like wat seetoh said.

bigger intercooler = cool air faster = cooler air = more power for engine

see diagram below....

the carbon fibre material of the gruppe m are supposed to shield heat from the engine better than stock plastic cover so that intake air is not affected by the heat of the engine bay.can some one verify that carbon fibre is a better heat shield than plastic ?

the intercooler serves like a heat exchanger taking some heat from the heated compressed air thus making it cooler so density of oxygen more for combustion.but the bigger the intercooler the more resistant to air flow and thus it reduces the boast pressure.you need to find the optimum size for the power and boast you are generating.

if you are using stock engine with a bigger intercooler you may feel a drop in low range power.

dun think CF material is any much better than plastic in terms of heat shield. the best would be those "metallic duct tape" used to wrap around extractors or exhaust pipings!!!!

they are used to faster conduct heat away not as a heat shield or am i wrong ?

yes correct.

compressed air produced by the turbo is hot and need to be cooled down by an intercooler. its just this simple theory.

colder air = densier air = more air molecules = more air = power for combustion = more power.... haha

picture of turbo to show how air out of turbo is compressed.....or forced...

i think the CF material of a Gruppe M is mainly for looks...... in my humble opinion...hee

nono i mean the first pic of the intercooler.

understand intercooler core too big = pressure drop too big = lag

oic....whaaa...good question!!!!

i agree the core is wide too leh.....its surface area is small, but thats the design to be able to fit a 335's mouth i'm sure.

i'm sure yr concern of pressure drop is negligeable bro........IMO...

haha....they dun call me MR. Technical for nothing bro...... haha

all along, i quite technical lah, but not to the standards of u, or SHAWN...keke...
