iPod adaptor for car

Hi,

Anyone bought and installed this yet? I its difficult to find the stock for the item.
Also it does not display the track name....

If I can build a adaptor that can display the track name on the radio display. How many of you would buy it?

Just a survey...

Re: iPod adaptor for car

Icelink Plus displays track name and charges the ipod at the same time. However, icelink plus is very expensive (about S$350 if shipped from UK). If you have similar features and costs a lot lower .. you will have a good world wide market. Make sure your adapter works for all generations of ipod though. :)

Re: iPod adaptor for car

So unfortunate. Creative makes better players, cheaper, but they don't have the clout and connections like iPod to get integrated into other systems...

Re: iPod adaptor for car

KT, thanks for the info. So does PML sell the iceLink or a different adaptor?

_iceman_, they should have a more open port that people can develop accessories for.

Re: iPod adaptor for car

ferd, PML sells the BMW adapter for iPod, I think it is in $240 region, someone here actually installed it before.

Icelink Plus is by a company called Dension, they are third party iPod developer .. I bought their first generation Icelink and used it on my Renault, it worked well. Icelink Plus is a follow up to the first generation Icelink. Many HU manufacturer has since joined the adapter game as well, I am sure you know Alpine has it, Blaupunkt also ... I am sure if you do a search, there must have other brand who might have similar solution.

Re: iPod adaptor for car

I got it installed prolly a month ago??... anyways.. it's withing the 300 region, plus labour, you're looking at 550 around there.. the adapter chargers ur Ipod too. You can make up to 5 playlists for ur bmw. So when u switch to ur cd mode, when you press 1, you'll be playing ur playlist 1. setting the playlists up is pretty easy. you'll have to follow by BMW1_rock, BMW2_jazz and so on. quality of it is pretty good. they'll put the connector on ur centre console, the one that can be transformed into ur cup holders?.... if u already have the cup holders then they'll put it in the glove box. The Ipod connector does not show the title of the songs tho, but over all.. you've got 2000 songs to listen to!.. haha... depending on how big ur Ipod mem is . All good i must say. :D

Re: iPod adaptor for car

Wow, $550 is rather steep. Oh well, as long as you enjoyed the setup, that is most important.

The Icelink Plus works the same way too, the only difference is that if your factory HU could display radio channel name (such as Class 95), then the song title will appear.

WEll PML does charge abit for the labour. when u mention the factory HU can display radio channel name.. mine can.. tht's standard in all E46 models rite?.. but as for song titles i noe it can't, this Icelink can display the song titles frm the ipod or mp3 player??.. interesting..

Re: iPod adaptor for car

Exact price for E46 is $435 (PML) all in, including labour. Installing at PML has advantage that your original car warranty is not jeopardised. I asked a few outside shops if they could install icelink but all of them are not keen. They are afraid of damaging a Bimmer!

Re: iPod adaptor for car

Where did you go to install the icelink plus? Did you order it direct online or the local shop has stock? Also, how much?

Thanks.

Re: iPod adaptor for car

I installed it at BVO. I got the icelink plus 2nd hand from one of the e46fanatics members since it was quite hard to get it online from densionusa.com
