I was at PML this morning to check out a few things. iPOD Adaptor is now available for E46, X3 and X5.
Cost is $435.75. I thought it's a good option.... in that we don't have to order on-line and worry about whether it works or not. also don't want outside installer to mess up the warranty. Spoke to a lady called Ling Ling. Her number is 63190185.

Anybody using iPOD now? Is the 20GB iPod OK? or should I go for the iPod mini?

Was told they are looking into bringing in the nav mod for the E46. Forgot to ask them about bluetooth kit.

I am using the 40GB ipod and the ipod mini. Ipods are good MP3 players. Which model to buy depends on what ur needs are. If it is for an active lifestyle such as gym, roller blading etc. go for the Mini, which is much lighter and convenient. If for indooe use or attached to the car, buy the 20 GB.

But u might want to wait cos there might be new model ipods releasing in a few weeks' time... :)

Hi ML, Got the Ipod adapter fixed on my E46 , its cool. But you must understand that you wont have any control on the ipod itself when its connected. You will only recognised song by Numbers, ie CD01-05 ,CD01-06 etc. But for good quality MP3 sound that enables steering buttons control, its awesome. JW

Re: iPOD adaptor now available at PML

thought i read somewhere in a tread that says that the lcd screen on dashboard reads the sond title?

Re: iPOD adaptor now available at PML

can you still use your cd changer when your ipod is plugged in?

so do you select Aux on the headunit or CD on the headunit ?

Re: iPOD adaptor now available at PML

anyone install the original iPOD adapter from PML,can show pictures ma?always a picture speaks a thousand words, man!
few questions:
Q1: Is the sound quality good?
Q2: I assume that one end of adapter is a cable connecting the headphone jack?
Q3: can this adapter charge the iPOD as well?

thanks:)

Ryan, do you know if there a staff from PML that access this forum. Maybe he can provide some form of "formal" response?

There are many information that we get from hear-say. It would be nice to have a PML rep here. Qns like blue-tooth kit in Singapore; qns like HU adaptorsl qns like key-remote control opening windows.

All i can say at this point..is that..they are watching and reading..

But they can't say anything because we're not officially recognised by BMW AG etc.

They have a non-involvement policy in all clubs worldwide.

I have a E90 and it comes with a built-in charger and aux in the centre arm rest. Im not sure how much PML charges which Im still waiting the SP to come back to me. The standard option only allows you to control the audio volume but you can't change tracks. You will need the adaptive option from BMW in order to do so.

However I found an alternative options using monster audio hook up:

Re: iPOD adaptor now available at PML

ok ok let me clear a few things up ... ive been using the ipod adaptor since early last year ... so there are good and bad points:

good points:
-charges your ipod
-interfaces with your steering wheel
-easy to use - just plug in and leave your ipod in glove box
-good sound quality thus far
-plugs in through the base of the ipod not the earphone jack =)
-can shuffle your entire playlist and play at random through radio interface

bad points:
-song info DOES NOT appear on the radio lcd or the dashboard lcd
-sometimes e kit lags when you are changing song and it takes a min or two to start again
-disables your onboard cd changer .. no more playing cds at all
-since the kit replaces the cd player .. press mode to cycle between radio, tape & ipod
-wire has become slightly warped over time .. guess cos my car is always parked in the open heat

hope this helps!

Re: iPOD adaptor now available at PML

btw just to mention ... id have to say that its still the best mod for my car! nothing beats having so many tracks at your hand and after a while you just forget that you dont have a cd player. also another bad point is that all your playlist must be named BMW_1, BMW_2 to the corresponding cd buttons on e radio interface .. you cant just plug in anyone's ipod .. it wont work .. they must be named bmw.

actually .. was doing a little bit of surfing and came across this :

http://www.2point5.com/index.php

fits perfectly in your ash tray and you can close your ash tray when not in use .. only downside is that you prolly cant use your steering wheel to control e ipod ..

thats how it should look like ..

Re: iPOD adaptor now available at PML

The ipod adaptor from BMW is only for audio though... (correct me if I'm wrong)
So I decided to make an AUX output from my widescreen nav monitor... pulled out 3 RCA cable (Red/White/Yellow). Then I ordered an Ipod video 60GB, Ipod car charger and Ipod AV cable. All this cables and gadget are going to be hidden in the driver side glove compartment. I will playback video and audio with the stock system.

Does this work? What's the end results?

That sounds a bit limited... especially if u have over 4000 songs on ur ipod....

I was actually looking at this:

http://www.densionusa.com/icelink_info_bmw.htm

This is suppose to be able to display the song info on display. Only problem is no local distributor.... Sigh!

Re: iPOD adaptor now available at PML

Is it easy to access the AUX output for the display screen?

Re: iPOD adaptor now available at PML

Bought a ipod retrokit from pml today and was surprise to be the 1st one and only one to purchase this kit for my e46 navigation system.

Went to euro auto at ang mo kio for installation. Took me 4 hrs but its worth waiting~~ so hapy with the mod, think i had already forgotten my cd changer haha~~~~~~ The labours is also resonable rather than PML de S350.... so expensive~~~ somemore got to put the car down for 1 day.
