Anyone here had fitted LED light bulbs of the licence plate? The Lexus's look kind

Re: LED light

Apparently there are issues with that, excess heat created can melt the plastic socket casings over time...

I wanted to do it myself initially..

aren't LCD bulbs suppose to run cooler? maybe could be the voltages?

Re: LED light

i did them before, but these bulbs simply dont last long and will stop working after a few months.. No issue of over heating for LEDs. Think bleachberu are talking about normal bulbs with blue coating that will case the casing to melt.

Re: LED light

Not only melted casings I was told...apparently some will cause Check Lights button to come on...Apparently re-wiring can be done to 'bluff' the ECU to solve this issue but probably best reserved for bigger jobs like swapping to bi-xenons or rear lights etc. Not worth the effort or $$ to do that for car plate lights or interior.

A bummer really coz I really wanted to mod those lights...sigh

U mean u have the LED light for the licence plate? I had tried b4 but flicker like disco light and also check light came on. So no choice got to go for the blue coated light bulb slightly white but it melt the cover. :(

Is my friend that got it from u, maybe. He can't use so passed it to me to tried

Re: LED light

you are driving an e60? i think in that thread i provided, Bugaboo did it before on his car. Try PM him to see if he is still on the forum! ha

Re: LED light

From what I know, we need to add resistance in order to trick the system. The LED's have too low a resistance value and the ECU thought the bulb kaput liao. How much to add I am not sure hmmm.....

Last time tried to do it on my VW and too much trouble so gave up liao.....

Re: LED light

Jeff has them on his E46, full interior lights as well. No trick needed. This is simple

His nick is J883t or something, i forget

Re: LED light

i asked Sito before. He said PIAA bulbs might work out fine.
You can get them from AutoBacs.

PHIL, HOW CAN U FORGET MY NICK ? DON'T FRIEND U ! :furious:

Guys.
Did it one weekday afternoon with helpful lads from AUTOBACs ( BUKIT BATOK ).
We took out original light bulbs from vehicle and match with whatever selection that they had there till we found the right ones. Also had the rear license plate light changed to LED.

There was no exact model matching original however a clever lad used one with a led lights fitted on a puny plate and had wiring harness that fitted onto the light holder. The space available, after fitting back the plastic reflector, was just enough to accomodate the gadget and its bright and beautiful.

Pro ; Cool and pleasant looking. Yellow lightings kinda look old...IMO
Con : Interior not as bright compared to original but ample...IMO
Cost : Justified
Trick : Check them out on weekdays rather than weekends...they would be very helpful as it not so crowded.

Cheers

Hi bro u mean u had ur number plate light changed to LED light without having any problem of check light n flickering?

Re: LED light

Yeah..no indications of any sort or whatever on dashboard. Another bro, JINOOI also had it changed recently at another autoshop along Alexander Rd..no problems too.
BTW, our rides are E46..wouldn't know about how sensitive the electronics stuff are on your model.
