Driver Akira Iida clocked a lap time of 7:14.64 on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife on August 31

We now have the official track time for the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition.
Driver Akira Iida clocked a lap time of 7:14.64 on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife on August 31.

The special edition LFA did it using its standard-issue (road-legal) Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires.

The LFA Nürburgring Package is scheduled to go into a limited-run production in 2012. Only 50 units will be from a total LFA production run of 500 models.

The Nürburgring Edition of the LFA comes with a carbon fiber body kit, a re-tuned suspension and an upgraded 6-speed sequential gearbox. It is powered by a 4.8-liter V10 engine with 562 hp (419 kW / 570 PS) - the standard LFA has an output of 412 kW (560 PS). The complete package costs an additional $70,000 but delivers a 0-100 km/h sprint of just 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph).

No where near...at least 20 secs slower.

Re: Lexus LFA Nurburgring time: 7 minutes 14.64 seconds

wouldnt all these so called manufacturers' nring laptimes differ just about as much in the above list in the same car depending on weather, traffic, and most importantly of all, DRIVER??

Re: Lexus LFA Nurburgring time: 7 minutes 14.64 seconds

Is all about Bragging rights, nothing else.

Re: Lexus LFA Nurburgring time: 7 minutes 14.64 seconds

Believe manufacturers will do their best to run it in good weather, and pick laps that are traffic free. Plus use the best driver they can get their hands on..

The few record setting videos so far have all been without traffic yes?

Re: Lexus LFA Nurburgring time: 7 minutes 14.64 seconds

Most of the lap times from manufacturerss are done during industry pool days when they are allocated private days for their R&D i.e. no public trackdays. So traffic rarely is a problem although there are days when its not manufacturer exclusive.

Its a wonderful time from the LF-A-Nur but then again, better to take reference from Horst Von Saruma (HVS) from Sport Auto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport_auto_(Germany).

That is the more accurate timing for a few reasons:-

1) Same driver
2) Tested on a car that is sold to the end-user i.e. not a factory prepped demo or presentation car.
3) HVS is known to be a non-bias tester.

For 1) and 3), it becomes irrelevant if its just for bragging rights to sell the car better. So when thats the case, race car driver who has clocked 100s to 1000s of the ring is engaged. Also, factory fitted OEM tires are "truly OEM i.e. same RE070 can have like 4-5 composition make-up haha..."

For 2), its relevant because when manufacturers first allow the motoring press to try the cars for the first time, its normally (ok, 99.999%) meticulously tweaked from electrical to mechanical components. I believe Chris Harris from EVO wrote an excellent piece on this some time back.

All in all, to sum it up, the LF-A is, like many other supercars, a wonderful technological piece of automotive machinery. We should all appreciate it, and other supercars, for their presence.

:)

Re: Lexus LFA Nurburgring time: 7 minutes 14.64 seconds

It seems that most if not all exotic / Sports cars need to go for a qualifying lap at the nurburgring before it can be sold in the market???

Errr buy in SGP no nurburgring, whats the point except for bragging rights? IMO, laptimes are nurburgring seems to be severely overated nowadays....

Re: Lexus LFA Nurburgring time: 7 minutes 14.64 seconds

the F1 teams send 2 of their best drivers also but they can have a half second difference. Over 20km, u have 2 second difference. Drop ranking liao if send the other best driver.

Re: Lexus LFA Nurburgring time: 7 minutes 14.64 seconds

LFA is a wicked car. Suitable as a daily drive for it's comfort yet killer power and awesome handling at the track. :shoot:

Re: Lexus LFA Nurburgring time: 7 minutes 14.64 seconds

Think Toyota F1 leftovers are the reason for this car
Haha...hv gd lunch.
