Hi,

Got a problem with the windscreen washer not working. Had take a look at the fuse box but could not figure out which is the fuse. Mine is a E46 320.

Ok, step by step...

1) first check for water in the wiper tank.
2) check if the pump is working. Ask someone to activate the pump and you put your ear near the pump and listen for winding sound.

If above are in-line, then

3) check hoses are not kinked
4) check the spray outlet (on bonnet) are not blocked by hardened wax/polish

If above are still ok, then

5) check the wiperspray fuse which is hidden inside the glovebox (not in the engine bay). You should have the fuse listing which tells you where is the wiperspray fuse location.

If the fuse is not blown, then

6) Take out your water pump and check for resistance between the +/- terminals by a voltage/resistance meter. The resistance reading should be 0.xx and not 1. When you see 1, means short circuited.

Sometimes, the motor coil will burn out and thus reduces the power. If all else fails to pin-point the problem, try changing the pump with a new one.

Happy trouble shooting!

Hi,

Thanks for the step by step technical advise. Water, blockage has all been ruled out. Suspect more to be the pump or fuse. Will give it a check tomorrow.

Digging up a really old thread :)

Had to replace the washer pump (coolant leaking, replaced the washer/filter, still leaking, saw the leak from the pump itself), and for those who are interested, the part number for the pump is:

67 128 362 154 wash pump motor
61 667 006 063 strainer for wash pump

should be S$50-S$70 or thereabouts.

To replace it is a simple 5 minute job.
