Brands of sub would be subjective. I suggest listening to different setups and choosing what you like. 500RMS would be that of a normal sub, nothing too wild.
Sealed vs ported. Sealed gives you the best control, it is the esiest to get right, and the easiest to retune by adding stuffing into the box to tighten up the bass.
Ported gives you the most punch(most efficient, and the loudest), albeit not easy to control - you get boominess if you don't tune the ports right. You can't just follow the specs on paper... they seldom work! You have to consider where you're pumping the ports into... the car's construction and placement of the ported box will matter too. Diameter/length of ports, and size of box must be tuned not only for the sub, but the car.
Monoblocks come in variety of flavours. They do start from 300W RMS, all the way to 2000W rms. check the specs, and match the load (in ohms) to get accurate picture of what you're getting.
Don't worry about car battery first. Just do a good install, and watch your voltage levels. You should always run yr ICE with the engine on, the main load would be on your alternator, while the battery is just a reservoir.
