N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

Change to smaller lightweight wheels helps in throttle response too.

Transmission map can also be programmed to avoid lugging the engine in off boost / spool zones. It can be easy for the PCM / ECU to command the gearbox to select a lower gear so that the mass flow is high enough to spool the turbo anytime the driver demands more torque from the engine. Driver on such cars may not be able to detect turbo lag at all.

Not true lah. Depends on turbo setup and other variables. Try telling the GTR/911 Turbo owners that their cars have lag. Even the N54 owners did not complain about the lag. Torque comes in handy from 1500 RPM onwards. All depend on rotational inertia and aspect ratio of turbo.

Check the stock dyno map of the N55 and see where the lag, if any, comes from. Twin scroll single turbos should not experience as much lag as a single scroll single turbo.

Solutions - plenty. Tune, exhaust, adjust AFR ratio, ignition timing.......

the M5 / M6 has plenty more torque... and so does the E63... both are V8 turbos... but there is this split second hesitation from the engine when you boot the throttle.... yes... almost non negligible but its still there....

put it in S+ mode (AMG), M button for (///M car), the engine downshifts to a lower gear, clings to a higher rpm and when one boots the throttle, it goes...

Is this turbo lag as defined?

Sorry bro, I don't drive a monster wagon like jasonmaxima here.... for him, once he stamps on the pedal and floors it, all the hell will break loose (including traction and even bowel motion).

For people like me, ie low class normal Bimmer posers, I mean drivers, I guess I'll have to live with the lag hehehe

If it is manual gear, any turbo lag?

If no, it means gearbox lag:)

KNN. Usually it's iscoupe that up lorry a thread by mentioning about Kay Kay jays, I never thought you would be the culprit here :lol2:

did you wear tight underwear lately, it might restrict your ability to step the accelerator faster than before.

I'm also cuntfused. I think I thought that I was thinking that I'm leaving the forum because of all this confusion.

did your car wobbles during the lag? any woman besides you doing the blow valves?

Turbo lag is the time required to change power output in response to a throttle change, noticed as a hesitation or slowed throttle response when accelerating from idle as compared to a naturally aspirated engine. This is due to the time needed for the exhaust system and turbocharger to generate the required boost. Inertia, friction, and compressor load are the primary contributors to turbo lag.

that brief 'nano second' '1 second' 'half second' 'split second' seems like an eternity especially when you have a container truck going >100km/h coming up your rear view mirror and you are trying to out accelerate them

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

Yes, but I don't think you have differentiated between turbo lag and slow throttle response.

I guess the modern day turbo charged cars I have driven are NOT drive by wire throttle sibeh sensitive types... but instead the electronic throttle types.

anyways, my definition of turbo lag is the time when depress the accelerator pedal, car accelerates forward briskly...REVS climb BUT before the great big Orgasmic turbo rush....
