Re: New F10 - 520 and 528 twin power turbo is here!!

As usual, turbo is addictive and surprisingly, the 4 cyclinder is pretty refine in its own way ..... lower end torque is excellent and comes in v low at 1200rpm, with almost no lag ... 528 trims are quite substantials but considering you are gonna pay 263k, I think it better be. 535 would have been ideal, but at 317k right now (based on 65k COE, it is way too expensive!) .... i will leave it to the experts to review and comment ... but my first impression is this is a worthy alternative....want to add, but with PML clever marketing ...it is still rather expensive for a 4 cylinder!

My ride is a 535 but after reading your comments i have this urge to go down PML and try the 528 :yummie:

Tks for the info!
About 50k diff it might be worth considering...lower rd tax and FC... Reviews of the 4 cylinder turbo have been good so far!
Its time to do some test drive!

Re: New F10 - 520 and 528 twin power turbo is here!!

+ there is a high chance to juice up a 520i which is the same N20 engine in 528i but detuned

Re: New F10 - 520 and 528 twin power turbo is here!!

test drove the 523 followed by the 528i today. on paper, the 528i is much higher specs (bhp & torque) than the 523. and during the test drive, the 528i indeed did feel faster than the 523, but i didn't think it was very much faster as i would have expected given the vast difference in the bhp and torque. no significant turbo lag when i pulled the 528 from stationary and the acceleration felt relatively linear. if you are looking for those kind of feeling commonly found in a japanese TC car (read: STi and Evos), then you will probably be disappointed. i also feel that while the N20 feels very 'raring to go', the N52 was more refined. the cabin noise (from the engine and exhaust) was noticeably louder (but not necessary nicer) in the 528i than the 523.

in terms of features, the 528i is better equipped than the 523 highline. the more noteworthy addition is the automatic start/stop function, park assistant, soft close and electric rear blinds.

it is a tough decision to choose between the 2. but if you take into consideration the discount that PML is giving for the outgoing 523, and thus the price difference between the 523 and 528, the decision becomes very easy. of cos, if $$$ is not an issue, the 535 or ///M is the way to go still.

just sharing my personal opinion. cheerioooos. :)

wow....the 528 seems inviting.
was wondering whether only the folks in US had the fun of owning that....heng ah, singapore also given this variant....yippee....think potential f10 buyers more happy liao since got wider choices

U miss out one point.
N20 engine is still tunable. I guess 270hp can be squeezed out easily.
Whereas, 523i is "maxed out".
Dun forget about resale value.

Re: New F10 - 520 and 528 twin power turbo is here!!

and i have a wishful thinking that 528i (2L 4pot turbo) price should fall especially to compete with Merc and Audi in "smaller engine, bigger performance"

once the dust settle, should be at least 10k cheaper.
but COE will go up by 30k!

so AC323 will tell you, MTL

vroom vrooom
cheers

Re: New F10 - 520 and 528 twin power turbo is here!!

once it's available to juice up a 528i from 245bhp/350Nm to 270bhp/380Nm (10% easily) and F10 M5 conversion kit from SWC, it's really MTL ....
