Zag,

It's just a rear slip on system....

OEM BMW E9x ///M3 Performance Exhaust System. Fits all E9x M3 Sedans, Coupes, and Convertibles (including LCIs).

  • Powerful and sporty exhaust note with no droning for everyday suitability.
  • Fabricated from a chrome-nickel alloy called Inconel®.
  • o Inconel® is an extremely heat-resistant and strong material. These qualities allowed engineers to reduce the wall thickness of the exhaust from 1.5mm to 0.8mm without sacrificing strength.
  • o This resulted in a weight reduction of approximately 40% (~20 lbs.) when compared to the stock exhaust.
  • o Inconel is very corrosion resistant and has been used at the highest level of Motorsports.
  • Perforated inner pipes and polished titanium tips (laser-engraved with the M logo) represent the ultimate in technology and sportiness, accentuating the individual character of the BMW M3.
  • Developed using state-of-the art CAD and FEM technology, ensuring optimum fit and OEM quality.

Re: New performance exos from ///M - any owners here can review?

I spent some time at the AD yesterday and did a more detailed test on the exhaust.

On firing up the car, it definitely sound meaner. Idling is louder than the stock unit but not as loud as the Akra/Eisenmann. Pushed the car out of the showroom and it sounds definitely louder and raspy (bassy). It perform as it is suppose to be. Next went up the AYE and did a test on crusing speed. Did crusing at varying speed from 50km/h to 100km/h. Definitely no drone. It gets so quiet (compared to other aftermarket) around 100kmh inside the cabin that i was thinking whether it is going to be as muted as the stock unit. Wind down the window and it definitely sounds louder and more bassy than the stock unit.

Eventually, put a set on my car. My initial thoughts (after 80km on it)
1) The low revs actually feels tighter now (butt feel). Was told it should pull better at high revs too.
2) No drone.
3) Gets to hear more sound in the cabin when trying to pull from low revs or car in too low revs at high gear.
4) Sounds louder but will not wake your neighbour up at cold start.
5) Throttle Blip more pronounced.
5) It is definitely ligher than stock. I did try picking up the exhaust myself.
6) LTA approval within 30 mins.

In short, if you are looking for performance gain, go for the Akra Evo. If not, M Performace exhaust may be a good choice. It is made of Inconel with titanium tips. The only thing that i do not like is that the tips are too short (though nicely flushed with the bumper) as I want to see more of the laser engraved ///M logo.

Thanks for detailed review.. Looks like it is a good choice..
The LTA approval , what is the procedure? MA will just do it for us right ? Do we need to be present?

Re: New performance exos from ///M - any owners here can review?

price? i m guessing less than 7k

Re: New performance exos from ///M - any owners here can review?

MA can do send the car for approval at a small fee. For me, i decided to do it myself as it saves me the time of waiting for the car to come back.

Its a rather simple process. Install exhaust at MA. They will give you an envelope full of documents. Proceed to STA Ayer Rajah. Tell them you are here for exhaust inspection. Give them all the documents that MA had given you. Pay $73 as inspection fees (while they do the various check). Wait for the approval letter. That's it!

Retails at close to 8k but transacted price is actually closer to 6k.

Is this the E92 M3 Demo Car at Munich? Nice sound but I still feel Akra sounds better!

Many thanks for your information, chongster. What did you do with your stock exhaust? Is there any scrap value?

my stock exhaust is currently stored in MA warehouse for the time being. I will bring back at a later time. I do not think there is much scrap value but will keep it so when bros who had installed Akra or Eisenmann Race need it to go for LTA inspection.... I can rent it to them

Re: New performance exos from ///M - any owners here can review?

keep the stock exhaust, it's very valuable when you need it ;)
