Granted, that's how the PAP politicians justify their multi-million dollar salaries, but honestly, I expected better from the PAP.
I sometimes don't get it. We voters are not stupid. Come on, look at the GOOD that the PAP has done in governing us (sure, there's a bucketload of bad too - comes with the territory), surely we would be able to discern for ourselves the wheat from the chaff.
There's really no need for the PAP to keep putting down the opposition at every opportunity, especially via the mainstream media (which we all know is skewed. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Opposition members & the people who vote for them are SINGAPOREANS too.

well said. i still remember a young chap tell LHL to his face that can he exempt from NS and pay lower tax as his ward Hougang has no multi-millions upgrading plan at least not high priority because it's an opposition ward and yet he is a SINGAPOREAN who did nothing less for SINGAPORE

If the ruling party has so much to say, it should field one of its rising stars to fight for Hougang. We'll see if a million-dollar-man stands up to public scrutiny.

Am I too late to run for Hougang as an Independent candidate if there is by-election? I want to to know Hougang residents better....
But If Nicole Seah is in...I will pull out (Not dirty talk here ok!) I bet she will win regardless who PAP field!

Classic cheap shot from PAP again. Always hitting opponents under the belt without looking at itself in the mirror. I'm sure they are dying to get back Hougang after almost 10+ years in the hands of opposition. Winning Hougang will be an epic episode in Spore political history. Why? Because it will hold repercussions and imply alot of sentiments - whichever party wins it. PAP wins it - it means it seals our fate that this party will rule us for many more years despite the frustration we citizens feel and nobody still dares to walk the talk. Opposition wins it - it will mean another landslide victory in 2016 because it has the endorsement of citizens who feels strongly against PAP's policies and track records. It will be a blow to PAP.
Make no mistake. This is all stakes in for these political parties. You can say our citizens' fate now lies with residents of Hougang. This battle has more far- fetching significance than just a normal district by-election. Please choose wisely our bros of Hougang.

if there really is a by-election in Hougang... I hope that it is a straight out 1v1 fight between PAP and WP ... all other extra characters like nicole seah or TJS can forget about coming in as predominally Hougang SMC is a WP supported ward... Gerald Giam is the most ideal replacement to YSL within the WP ranks now...as he is of a similar profile to Yaw and he is a recognised face and more imptly a WP FACE.....
PAP has a core 35% support in hougang based on 2011 elections...the demographics shouldnt change much and this 35% core should still be ard ... if someone else comes in to dilute WP votes...PAP actually have a very good chance to capture back hougang....Tony Tan won Presidential Elections capturing onli 35% of the votes too...

Our PM is also a chess player hor. Dun think he only take 3 million and know how to FB only (ok maybe his ka kia think for him.. who knows). Just drag and delay this by-election as long as possible. This will build up the frustrations and disappointment of Hougang residents at WP. The Budget will also be over - hearsay this year's budget will be a windfall for many low-middle class citizens - this will garner more supporters for PAP. Maybe PAP is building up bullets to search for the best candidate in their pool of 'talents'. Need to do some statistical analysis mah... btw by how much did that Desmond (PAP) guy lost to Yaw (WP)? Who has the data to share? If Desmond lost by big margin, then fielding him will be a waste of time for PAP.
A funny statement from PM is that he has "other more important national agenda to address.... the by-election can wait". What other urgent national issues? More civil servant spring cleaning? His Housing Minister like very eng leh... can come out and blast WP. Isn't housing issue a top agenda? So go back to work harder la Mr Khaw, don't tcss.
