Noise from Steering Wheel

Hi,

I have this whirring noise when i turn my steering. Went down to PML to have then check it out, and they told me it is because i change to after-market shock absorbers . the only way is to change back to stock shock absorbers.

although i am not a mechanic, this did not seem logical. I've changed my shocks on my earlier cars before and i know that the steering noise and shocks are not related.

anybody face this problem before? is what PML said true?

Although I am not really sure what kind of whirring noise you described, I did have a similar problem some time back in last year. It produced a noisy sounds whenever the steering was turned, and it was really loud. Before I sent my car to PML to claim warranty, I drove it to BVO to have a check. Turned out to be "the power steering pump" was up the lorry liao... Good luck.

Maybe the power steering fluid is low ?

yes. i do have intention to goto an outside workshop to get a 2nd opinion.
my car is still under warranty, maybe thatz the reason for PML's bochap attitude.

my x3 had this problem too .. but PML says nothing wrong .. its not really annoying .. and doesnt affect the steering .. just that it makes one worry if the steering will up lorry one day a not .. how much does it cost to change the steering mechanism? any idea bros?

Yes. I can't agree more.
Although i am not a mechanic, i believe that noise does not just appear for no reason. Furthermore it is coming from the steering wheel.

Re: Noise from Steering Wheel

redleader, you can bang table at PML to ask them to check properly again.
Or at least make them record down what they said so that if the noise is really due to, say, power steering pump, and it breaks down after warranty period, then at least got chance to bang table again.
Or go outside workshop to double confirm the reason for the noise.

If free, service sucks. If we are paying for things, suddenly everything spoils and need to change. And to be fair, this can happen anywhere. (iscoupe say one from his experience in Sar Lau.)

simple logic. take PML words and get it replaced and if noise gone means PML is correct.
If the noise only heard when always same steering movement.
changing to after market spring or any suspension part will have noise? is a gamble.
If you ask your mech before they proceed , i dont want noise you will likely get the answer NO gaurantee
