Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

i was contemplating buying a 2.4ghz jammer and jacking their wireless network on WEP at one time, but was lazy to go find a wireless adapter that could do packet injection.

not a bad idea... any idea where to get these equipment? :p

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

u can use high tech counter offensive method. it is not advisable but it works. tv will not work, internet and gsm signal too. plus high frequency countermeasure which will cause everyone of them to go mad and may even commit suicide. it is dangerous, but its one solution.

LOL,you think police sleeping ? wanna go jail ?
listen to me lah, get a comfy ear mug until relocate.

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Maybe you can nicely ask them to be a bit more quiet.....who knows, maybe they don't know how noisy they are.

If that fails, go yo his upstairs neighbour and bribe him to make noise...LOL!

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

been there, done that.

i've tried approaching them and they gave me all kinds of excuses... it's upstairs, their kids are sleeping, yada yada yada etc.

then i called cops, they tell the cops all kinds of bs story also. everything else is to blame, just not them

then i went to the MP, who escalated to HDB, still don't work

i'm out of bloody options actually, to an extent i am thinking about how to chase them out.

i'm just hoping i get some positive replies here cos some other forums i get all kinds of rubbish replies (like 'go burn their house down'), like WTF? i'm very stressed up by the noise and my head is cracking whenever there's along weekend at home so this is definitely not funny.

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Install a good sound system, do not need to blast the music, be a considerate neighbour, enjoy and stay insulated from the disturbances. 8)

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

btw i just tried generating a 15khz tone on my laptop and it indeed drives me nuts...

i have a nice audio setup... a rotel power+pre amps and mission speakers. but i don't want to listen to music all the time. people need some peace and quiet at times, such as when you are sleeping...

that's when the ear plugs comes in..

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

I had a noisy neighbour similar to yours. Spoke to them nicely first time. Stopped for a while but started again after a while. So, each time it's noisy, will go upstairs to inform them. Complain nicely again. Do it each time they make too much noise and after a while they'll be annoyed of people ringing their doorbell. Noise getting less and less. Now no issue at all.

Just have to be thick skin and go knock on their door constantly. But be nice. That's the only way.

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

guys... bump

1.5 years and counting

i can't really put up with this shit anymore i am on the verge of killing somebody

seriously, any lawyers in this forum?

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Bro,

Just my two cents for you to consider.

Firstly, I'll assume that you are the reasonable sort and not the overly sensitive to noise type and that the neighbours noise is really unreasonable. Cases of noisy neighbours are usually very difficult to establish given our dense living culture of apartments. Everybody will expect that there is some give and take so some noise is inevetable. The key question in your case is whether the noise from you neighbour has become too much that it can be considered unreasonable (in the eyes of the judge not just yours ... or should I say ears).

If you wanna take up legal action, you will need to build up a case for yourself. It seems you have done some groundwork already ... complain to HDB, Police, MP. Keep good records of these.

Before you go see a lawyer, what I suggest is to build up a case. It will have be a case of consistent and persistent noise eminating from your neighbours :

1. Get an audio recording device with decibel meter (need to ask around for some techie advice for this)
2. The next time it is noisy, turn on the device and record with date, time etc etc.
3. Keep a log of the noisy activities for a few week/months.

Once you have built up a strong enough case, go see your lawyer. He will then be in a better position to argue your case for you.

Hope this helps. Good luck Bro

P.s. Just a side note. Since you complain to HDB, Police, would your ride also be at risk of keying, unexplained scratches?

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

bro, thanks for your tips. i will try to source for a decibel meter and record.

the noise is not unbearably LOUD like a renovation, it's just loud enough to wake you from a sleep or prevent you from sleeping. worse part it isn't consistent like a reno drilling. it's SUDDEN so it gives you a rude shock.

the neighbourhood i stay in is dense, yes, but it's peaceful quiet at night as well (bukit panjang)

just last night at 12 midnight somebody was walking around in the masterbedroom in either heels or clogs, but certainly something with hard heels.

to roughly explain how bad the building structure is - i can even hear the dog's nail on the floor. it is THAT bad. i'm not complaining about the dog, but the fact is if I am able to hear it, something is seriously wrong with HDB.

i don't think it's 100% my neighbour's problem, maybe half of that blame goes to the cheap construction of the flat, but seriously do they have to move furnitures, walk like king kong, wear heels/clogs, drop objects, wash things (usually I think it's something heavy since there's a lot of noise like metal hitting the floor in the bathroom attached to the masterbedroom) all in the middle of the damn night?

re: keying, no we share a huge multi-storey carpark i think it's hard for them to figure out which is my car. i have two cars anyway and usually drive the cheap one on weekends. they can key that one for all i care. if they ever let me catch them then they are out of luck.

Ok, Just my personal view.

You need not necessarily have to show that the noise was extremely loud (like an explosion). I think that you would need to be able to show that the noise was unreasonable e.g. constant banging or knocking in the middle of the night

That's why I suggested a simple audio meter to monitor the sounds and log in the time. I'm am totally not familiar with these gadgets but I suppose you could just leave it on in the bedroom and if there are any sounds, it would be captured ... Just remember to turn it off when you are partaking in any ECA in your bedroom :nehnehhh:

Before all this, perhaps you may wanna consider some steps to alleviate the noise. Maybe you can put up a thicker layer of plaster on the ceiling. That would probably dampen the sounds quite a bit. This may be a cheaper and more sensible solution. Again, I'm no renovation contractor but I'm guessing $1-2k may be enough to put in a solid layer. This $$ is just a guesstimate.

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

detach8, I am staying at bt pangjang too. agree that the building structure is a bit thin.

my comments:
1) no use going to the police. they classify the case as "noise population". no further action require.
2) HDB or town council? no use either. i mean beside "advising" your neighbour, what can they do? NOTHING!
3) Lawyer? build your case and then what? bring them to court? and then what? will they move out? i dun think so.

Think you can consider HIGHBURY's advise, creating a "sound buffer" at your ceiling. no idea abt the cost but it is a gd idea.

must remember that you stay below them. so......most of the time, you are at the receiving end. head you lose, tail they win.
like 1 of the bro said, each time they bonk, you cant sleep, walk upstairs and ring their bell! EVERYTIME! regardless of excuses given by them.

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

tiger1, i don't think they are boking. the husband seems to work late shifts and return home at ~1-2am that's when there's some noise. usually 11pm-12 midnite it's the kids, then they go to sleep (but not true during holidays) but 2am the hubby returns and the noise starts, and ends at ~4am. it's terrible i cant really freakin sleep. i'm certain it's not boking unless kamasutra teaches them to stretch across 4 chairs or something

it's a chore to go up and knock on their door. it takes time, effort and usually i end up getting more fed up than ever.

which part of panjang do u stay? i stay in senja. do u have the same problem? maybe we shld meet for coffee.

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

sorry i meant to say they KPKB and not bonking. lol

bro. it take a lot of effort to stage a prolong "counter-attack". it will be a prolong war! :)

i stay at Segar. we can meet up for kopi. if u're into diy car wash, can join my weekly exercise evry sunday at my mscp. very quiet and no body disturb.
