oh man... I cant tell real from fake M5s!

sigh.... having a serious problem nowadays.... i seem to be seeing many "M5s" on the road... sometimes i can get close enuf to see if its real or not.... but sometimes even when i get close i cant tell man!

Real M5 should be quite loud right? with its quad pipes and all.... i met one yesterday .... pretty quiet, but seemed pretty fast leh... number EA 8_ or something.... but quad pipes didnt look very authentic.... had side grills, lowered, big rims though....too dark to see the brakes....

hur hur..... you guys have similar experiences?

I always get VERY intrigued when i see "M5s" on the road... its like playing "is it real or not?"...

my neighbour has one but i tink the only way is to chk e road tax if its parked..or go to onemotoring to chk if you haf e number plate i guess(i seen this in another forum , i duno how to chk tho haa) another way is perhaps the BMW brakes but den again very hard to say cos thos fanatics can always upgrade their brakes...i believe fake quad pipes are easy to tell cos thy are jus dummies and haf no pipes att to it. REAL M5 also include features such as HEAD -UP DISPLAYS and Sun roof. There IS my formula to regonize e real m5

no, real M5s are not loud at all (unless owner mod exhaust); David was driving his M5 at Cameron, can hardly hear his exhaust.

i see.... but the real M5 pipes are a bit like the M3's... the slim type right? the one i saw had pipes that looked like the AC type.... so hmmm...

Certain tell tale signs such as (already mentioned) quad pipes, side sills, front and back bumper, wheels, brakes and road tax disc. If you have a chance to peep inside, look out for SMG gear knob, HUD (I think older models dun have), M Steering wheel with paddle shifts and red/blue threads. Also look at the dials, the bottom right shows engine temperature as opposed to fuel economy (as the rest of the E60 does).

I think that's about it. And of course, if you have a chance to pop the bonnet, look out for the M5 V10 badge.... hehehe.....

quiet is good...zoom past swiftly those wannabes..love e understated superiority..get quite irritated with some of e jap korean cars with their big milo tins "challenging" you...
juz noticed...SMYUEN has 2 coupes(roadster, i mean 2 door cars)...@@...no need for a sedan or MPV? *envy*
for me everytime wanna get a car always have to consider e 'praticality' still...thats why an M5 is good *grin* soon soon i hope...

i think the ratio of fake M5s to real M5s in singapore right now runs at:

5:1

so when you see a real one and gets blown by it, consider yourself lucky.

If on the move, drive closer next to the driver and look at his brakes.
I can bet with ya it's almost unlikely the owner changed the brakes.

Also locally, most M5 wannabe with full conversion don't have the M5 rims.

btw, David's M5 is about 3K km, when we went up Cameron drive, even on the NS, average no less than 18-20L/100KM!!
