Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

Re: Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

PML can say that it is a wear and tear item but if it has persisted for so long and due to repeated top-up, they should have the initiative to check it. U can speak to the Service Manager about this. I personally think that u have a case.

I hope ur warranty is not up yet. U can call up our listed workshop to get a quote as well. Remember to ask PML for the breakdown of the work. I guess a big chunk of it would be labour.

Re: Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

Thanks, i have written a letter to them to appeal. I also thought that as vehicle is below 3 years old and only 40,000 km milieage it would still be covered by the warranty....

i went to one mechanic outside and they say the actual part (the oil gasket itself) only costs approx SGD600-800 max....so i am quite shocked they quote a fee of SGD2,700/-

And again this should still be under warranty....i mean the profit margin for PML on this must be 200-300%!!!

Re: Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

hi, maybe you want to try to fix ur problem @ Khang's Automatic Transmission Pte Ltd (Sin Ming arear) or BVO? i think their price would be lower than PML =) have CYN!

Sigh. Don't want to say this.
But reading this makes me want to rant a bit.
Bear with me.

PML service center can be bunch of self-serving a*holes.
1st hand frustrating experience...
Several times, over the almost 9 years of ownership.
The service managers are pathetic in their client management.
It's all about lip-service. And goodness what actually goes on in the workshop.

E.g. Historical incident. Once after servicing.
Airbag warning light comes on.
We return the car to them right away.
PML immediately blames us - the owner: for vacuuming the car, saying it tripped the sensor.

By chance, there's a little card in the back seat from PML.
Stating they vacuumed the car post servicing as a "courtesy".

Seeing hard evidence.
They quickly switch their stance.
And blame something else for the Airbag warning.
Eventually try to settle for waiver of labour - charging us for parts.

We were exasperated to say the least.
Poor client accountability - self interest is primary concern.
Sometimes Piss-poor knowledge of their own cars.

Seriously, you would think that they would have some respect in the job they did.
But it appears they perform at the lowest common denominator.
To be fair, I'm sure there might be some good exceptions.
But I'm afraid my/my family's experience hasn't been quite so pleasant.

Please bring your car to R2D (Bukit Batok St 23) or BVO (Sin Ming opp. Ubin Seafood)
Find Rod or Ah Wee for a 2nd opinion.

Re: Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

My e90 coming to 2 yrs soon ... i found oil accumulated at the corner cavity the some of the plastic cover , oil stain can be clearly seen at the side of the engine block .. the whole compartment look oily. PML visually inspected and confirmed oil leak .. said could be gasket failure or something else ,, wow, not even 2 year old. Sending in to fix 2molo .. luckily still under warranty.

Thats exactly happen to me on the bill. Sent in my car for servicing. Bill was 1k+, was kidda busy so rushed after collecting the car, didn't go thru' the bill with the consultant. The next day then I realised almost $600 of the $1k goes to labour!!! And the worst thing I found out is my engine oil wasn't change, I have used the engine oil for 25k already. I immediately cheong down to Alexandra to fxxk the consultant. He insisted its perfectly ok to use the engine oil for another 16k, thats 41k!!! His reason... The computer didn't alert to change... WTF... Fxxk the PML... So pissed

Under warranty in first 2 yrs means labor and material is FOC! WTF they talking about????

My E46 first 3 yrs Cylinder head gasket leaked twice, both times ALL things FOC by PML...hmm wonder is that why the 320i is going for

Re: Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

Ouch major oil leak detected during servicing at BVO today, oil light also on damage approx $2.5k quoted by ah wee, however price includes servicing and some other work.... sigh poor E46 318

Re: Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

geeezz...i'll be pissed too man bro....but how u know oil not changed? i think our cars doesn't come with dip stick (i prefer a dip stick tho)...
cheerio... :)

Re: Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

My E90, 3 yr 1 mth had the oil leakage problem and I brought down to PML for repairs. The total bill was $1.6K (down from the $2.7K mentioned earlier in this tread ), after PML agreeing to abosrb a substantial portion of the parts cost (as my car was only a mth after warranty). The labour cost alone was $1.1K

A few days after the repairs, my car is now blowing hot air. I went down to question PML why it was not brought to my attention since they charged me $110 for vehicle check in my last servicing. What is the purpose of vehicle check and why are we paying $110 when even a basic fault of the car is not even reported? Is'nt vehicle check supposed to check everything and report any fault?

Re: Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

frankly...i think they just plug it into the diagnostics machine to see if got any error codes.

dun think they do anything.

Re: Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

Charging us $110 for plugging a diagnostics machine really treats us like carrot. Think I must boycott PML from now on

hey bro,
use the site sponsors here la R2D or Amos or even Riverview Vincent (cos y previous 2 rides i went to him, cheap and good)...
PML after ur warranty? forget it la....but for me bo bian, just gotten new ride so gotta tough it out with them for a bit for the next 3 years...hahaa...:)

Re: Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

I also experienced an oil leak before, not at the engine compartment but at my suspension. Can see oil starting to leak due to physical wearing.

But if you are under warranty, better let PML to diagnose the problem, or else your warranty could be voided if you send to external parties to repair.

Same here bro. I have to add 1L for every 1000km (or every 25 days). No workshop can detect the problem, there is no leak....:screwedu:

I have been thinking about this for a while. it is possible to have the oil leak alittle through the exhaust / intake V/v?

i am not sure of this, and correct me if i am wrong, but i believe the n46b20 engine is a cam timing is computer controlled. is it possible that the timing is off or the sensor is damaged, thus causing a leak once in a while?
so nothing leaks within the engine bay but throwing it out of your exhausts once in a while.

hows your plugs? the only way to really tell is probably a top overhaul.

25K still no need to Change oil?????

You tell him go F*cking drink the oil lor!!!!!

Most of our driving here is city driving with lotsa start and stops throughout.....oil can't last more than 10K.....That's usually the threshold for us here....

You should see the oil after 5k....

hmm... noob question here... so u guys don't wait for the freaking indicator b4 changing engine oil? so what then is a good interval to change? 10k?

so if we do not wait for indicators to show up b4 sending the car in for servicing, what servicing intervals do the other bros out there prescribe to then?

Re: Oil Leak expeneice from 320i

For cars with lower mileage it should be 10K or every 6 months.

BTW, does PML change ATF or must we go to an outside workshop to change ATF? Change ATF every 20K? and which is the "original" ATF oil for an E90
