Overhaul Transmission - Sep 2006 E90 320 PFL

Re: Overhaul Transmission - Sep 2006 E90 320 PFL

Hi Guys, I recently noticed a clunking sound when I shift gear from Reverse to Park or vice versa when parking. However, driving was fine with no obvious gear changing jerk. Is this an indication that my transmission/ gear box going to fail on me soon? Thanks in advance.

Finally my gearbox up lorry today... Had always bee having jerking issue so tried having the fluid change out but problem didn't go away. Exclamation mark with gear logo came up today and the car was experiencing difficulty accelerating and reversing. Send the car in to workshop and diagnosed with valve body error. Quoted $4k ish to sort out the problem... Welcome myself to this club. Hooray :wtf:

Wonder if anyone ever purchase a 2nd hand gearbox from spare parts shops (e.g. propel) and get a workshop to change it for you? Will it be cheaper than, say getting the transmission specialist workshop to overhaul/recondition your gearbox?

4k is within the normal range to overhaul valve body

Better to overhaul than buy a 2nd hand gearbox esp if yours is the ZF gearbox with repair kit.

At least you know what parts you changed in your gearbox.

2nd hand gearbox likely has the same wear and tear issues unless it's a fully recond/rebuilt unit.
