Hi

I couldn't wait and fearing I'd lose my cool w pml csa for sh*tting ya (u somehow have tat tot behind ur head and dread dealing w them), so I tried the gearbox reset trick from Omar this morning. It REALLY worked! The gear shifts are instantly much smoother and the car feels more zippy. Put it thru the acid test at theonce-wretched carpark upslope on way out of my workplace and voila hesitation and gear drop were gone:) (tested at same rev) Just to share my experience here.

Wish to thank Omar for the great advice! Ride's even more pleasant now:)

Wonder how the gearbox was messed up in first place. Can't suspect anyone else cept it happened before delivery? Anyway.

check with u arr spidey, when you depress your pedal all the way to the ground do you feel a click at the end? Or did you just push it all the way to the floor? I couldn't feel the click on my car

I tried the same trick for 30 secs but diff in gear change was only marginal. Not sure if its just a placebo effect.

You must feel a click sound. Its the kickdown button. Maybe you are wearing too heavy a shoe to feel it. Make sure you do it for like 40s.

Re: PML Diagnosis Correct?

Hi bro, i took off shoes and depressed pedal all the way. all i felt was it hitting the floor. Did not feel the kick down button. how hard do you need to press? i did it for 60 secs.

Re: PML Diagnosis Correct?

slater, get down and put your head in the footwell. You can see the kickdown button. It's silverish and the button size is like a 10 cent coin.

For me I just had to go beyond the 'click' which is just before pedal travel maxed out, hold it floored and did 30secs. Felt click with my shoes on. Did u turn on the ignition beforehand w/o braking?

Now why did you have to reset the gearbox software?

You were driving like a pussy weren't u?

It's a sports sedan. Drive it like one :)

@Slater it only works when the `learning gearbox' is really screwed up. If yours is not, resetting it will be no avail.

Usually cars driven by 2 people, or a schizo, will have this issue.

Lol:) trust me if you road hog w me behind u u wont think i drive like pussy. but hey ur m3 gonna just blow my puny 320 to bits anyway ha:)

No it wasn't my driving. It was a gearbox software gone bonkers n am just glad it's been reset and i'm enjoying the ride as how it shld be:)

best bullshit i heard in 2009! i get this too on my e90, esp when i go up to the upper carparks at imm. as pointed out correctly by bros here, it is caused by the gear shifting down and car suddenly found the power to move up :woowooo: trick is not to let gear shift down, so u actually gotta rev a bit and climb the slope faster.

try Omar's method and let us know if it qorks for u too. Quite sure it's not just butt feel for me.

Re: PML Diagnosis Correct?

Bro slater, any updates? My 325 also have sluggish gear change esp 1st to 2nd. Will see if this method works.

Hi PAnda, have tried it at least 2 more times and what I noticed after the reset was that the onboard computer display did show signs of reset (does not display the usual numbers when I start the car, only after a while).

Gear shifting is smoother though. Under certain circumstances there is still a premature downshift when going up slopes. I kinda concluded that it is the due to the gentleness of my foot on the peddle.

Panda, I do suggest that you do the reset to try for yourself. No harm one. No side effects as well.

Maybe I need spidey bro to demo how he does his reset. hehe

Re: PML Diagnosis Correct?

Guys,

After you Depress throttle for 30 to 40 s....Then what? Let go, then depress brakes and start the engine immediately?

or shut off, pull key out from slot? The start engine normally?

Need to know this then I go try too....

Thanks!
