Or should I go for a less than a year old 525i XL for $175k. OMB around $54k..

Even after a year, I would think the less than a year old 525i XL commands a better resale than the F10.

My relative booked a E250 and asked for the GPS option and was told it cost 9k so my guess is 7-9k.

[. Do you know how much they charge for a GPS DVD? Make a guess.
[/QUOTE]

This is for the previous generation E60 5 series. From the standard 6.6" screen to a 8.8" screen, the retrofit cost something like $15k cause on top of changing the screen, they also had to change the front dash to accommodate the bigger sized screen, plus they had to do some electronic tuning/update.

As for the DVD, when I first enquired, they were asking for $1k but I believed they have dropped the price to about $750, still a lot to pay when the Garmin ones are updated more regularly and are free plus they have additional features such as traffic light cams etc...

Well, this is the reality of the purchase. Of course there are buyers out there that will buy the car regardless of price, test-drive etc... this was previously Mercedes' potential market, towkays just walking into the showroom to purchase the latest S-Class, regardless of the OMV vs Price. I believe this 'younger' or more informed group of buyers look for more value in terms of OMV, features etc.... before being able to put down their hard earned cash into something like a mid-term 'investment'.

Re: Potential F10 Newcomer...

True..

I had read quite a fair bit of happening news with in this forum and I must say this is really a knowledgeable place to learn. Especially those PML stories (oops should I say the fact) :)

Hi Dash,

Nice to see you here too :)

Too early to say la.. after reading the posts here, seems like I would have to consider thrice first..haha.

Re: Potential F10 Newcomer...

if you are thinking to buy from pml and with the low omv, better think 4 times first hor .....

Re: Potential F10 Newcomer...

Price/OMV aside, it is a nice car though when I test drove the car, it didn't really feel that special. Maybe its cause I currently drive the E60 5 series so maybe its not that much of an 'upgrade'. But I would have thought that they would put in the Integral Active Steering since it was available on the first batches of the E60 520s. Even the 535 doesn't have this built into the standard specs. But the HUD and soft close doors are nice features to have (for the 535).

hehehehe....hope this will be true, but doubt it........

Re: Potential F10 Newcomer...

most of the F10 now are 523i (detune) right ? the E60 525XL OMV is higher and engine is more powerful.

Completely agree. The other aspect you would want to look at is at the after-sales of PML. They can brag about the lowest cost of maintenance but if you read the forums closely, the quality of the after-sales is sub-standard compared to Merc and Audi. For that amount of money for the given OMV and the selling price, it's already a big loss for those who decides to sell the car later on. Expect 1st year buyers to take a hefty depreciation due to the low OMV. The F10 would be a nice car but given the scene here, I would not pay that amount of money since the OMV already shows the car is severely overpriced compared to the competition. Logically, how much more can the OMV of the car can change? Marginally. Even then, most of the money is pure profit. It's like giving you back $1 after spending $100. Same way we got GST credits and everything increased later on. In the end, we are on the receiving end.

C&C's aftersales service is not much better than PML. They also like to tell you "It's normal"!
BTW, PML charges for normal servicing is much lower than C&C. I paid more for the C180 compared to the 523!

I think most of us here love our BMWs, my 523 is my 3rd BMW. It's just that we can't stand the cut throat prices! I'm eyeing the F10 too, but I just can't convince myself to part with my money given the OMV vs selling price numbers.

Like I said earlier, you must really love the car deep deep deep deep to part with your money knowing how much they make from you.

Errr... not too sure too. but i think buying a car is more than just the OMV..i think overall design, interior, exterior..etc plays a part.

U r correct but unfortunately in our unique little red dot, the OMV plays a HUGE part... Good luck in your decision! Remember....Go With Your Heart..!!!

Re: Potential F10 Newcomer...

The resale market of the F10 will be a particularly an interesting one. I think it will shock many people once these cars goes for sale in the 2nd hand market. Steep loss for many I predict based on the extremely low OMV. It appears Selling Price has not changed much from the last 5 series but the OMV has changed drastically for the same model and engine capacity.

Re: Potential F10 Newcomer...

+1

2nd car buyer will try to squeeze as much as possible and low OMV will be a strong argument for depreciation for the balance 6/7/8 years unless the buyer is mr robert and he don't mind

for new car, the price is controlled by AD. for 2nd car market, just need a few kan cheong seller to let go at low price to set precedent :D

Exactly. The general guideline of depreciation of BMWs in the second hand market will be redefined because of the pathetic OMV. Definitely more of a drastic consequence to owners in general than just F10 owners. Not to mention, that being Singaporeans itself is another percentage point down in prices! In the end, given the OMV of an Accord and F10 which are similar, assuming the 2 owners bought at the same time, both will just about command the same price in the 2nd hand market!!! Pretty shit.

Of course, if the Selling Price was a lot more reasonable, people would be generally more acceptable to the much lower OMV. However, we know that's never gonna happen with the kind of AD we have here. History repeats itself. I know a few PIs who are selling the 550i for slightly more than a AD 535i Fully Loaded. Imagine the margins!

Actually, the selling price of the E60 vs the F10 is alot different. The 523 E60 was going for about $170k with an OMV (approx) of $52k whilst the F10 523 is selling for $215k with an OMV of $37k. A lower OMV with a higher price tag. Some of it is due to COE but for the consumer, its more money for 'less' car. So there is a big difference.

The only thing I like about the F10 (besides it being new) is the 8 speed gearbox, which is fantastic. Talking in general about the 5 series. Of course there's alot to like about the 535i.
