Hello to our I.C.E experts here. I was recently driving a rented Subaru STi with stock ICE. Damn !!!, only then I realized that the stock audio sys. in my E46 that I thought is good enough for me in fact sound so poooor when there is a comparison. Well, now I'm thinking of the following improvement to the audio sys.

1. Increase the bass effect (of course not to the extend of seat massaging...)
2. very important, clear....sound.
3. maintaining the Headunit, so that my stock 6-CD changer and controls from steering wheel is still usable.

Any suggestions? I'm looking at the budget around $1K. Thanks in advance.
My 1K budget for my 318 was
- DANISH ACOUSTICS Pristinum Series Front Speakers $750-800
- Hertz around $200

Decent enough, when i start pumping some hip hop...
Sound is pretty clear as well
Careful , it will be addictive as your ears carve for more...

Re: recomendation to do BMW audio system

Actually it really depends on ur buget. See how u want to play ur I.C.E. Active or passive?
Play passive if u just wan to maintant ur h.u and disc changer.
I suggest keep ur component add an amp to it.
additional with a sub 10" at least with a mono block to pump it. should able work buget ard 1k plus a bit. With 1k dun borther to buy expensive component,it's a waste of money cos ur h.u cant push the component to it's true sound. If u really wan to play active , u have to fork out money. There are people throw 10 to 20k on their i.c.e. It's a never ending story.
Just play within ur buget cos end of the day all the stuff wouldn't get u much money back, in another words u can invest all at one time and transfer on ur next ride. :)

Re: recomendation to do BMW audio system

Thanks, buddies. Got my I.C.E. the passive way as described by ezmobile a few months back, not too long after posting in this thread. Since I don't get any helps until yesterday, I had to go ahead with my own trial set up. Got myself a pre-amp, amp, sub-woo and 6-component speakers while retaining my bmw headunit and 6-CD changer. Cost me around S$1.5K. Sounds is definitely much clearer, bass is stronger and what's more important is my expectation is achieved. Cheers

Re: recomendation to do BMW audio system

Jamers,

one modest but important upgrade i would strongly suggest is to get another audison. get the LRx series though, for the monoblock to dedicatedly service the subwoofer.

Re: recomendation to do BMW audio system

thnks oneheadlight, but i'm pretty satisfied wif my currrent setup.. provide good bass and quailty.. for not getting the lrx is mainly becoz of my current needs... but will definately keep ur advise in mind..
cheers

Re: recomendation to do BMW audio system

just concerned that your srx may blow, if the gain settings etc are not right.

Re: recomendation to do BMW audio system

WAT!!! BLOW???!!?? wat settings do let mi noe.. i don't wan anithin in my car goin kabooomm.. tell me more tell more i'm a noob..

Re: recomendation to do BMW audio system

haha. don't worry, if anything...it will blow the amp fuse first.

i presume, from briefly scanning thru your hardware, that u are only using one amp for your front components and the sub. A sub draws alot alot of power.

i m too lazy to refer to the specs, so i assume u are using a 3 channel audison entry level SRx.

and also not knowing your sub specs, single or double coil kinda stuff, i am again sugesting that you shold know, esp i suspect the amp is NOT 2 ohm stable, in the event your sub is drawing at 2 ohm, there could be potential trouble.

basicaly... u wud rather an amp dedicated to the sub.
i m not saying it will definitely blow the amp, but it may happen.

Hi Jamers, I did mine sound system with them too about a year back. Soundwerkz is a reputable shop frequently patronized by cabrios and conti. They ought to know their stuff well. They help to solve my hissing problem left by my prev installer :) Another thing i like about the shop is their staffs and worker 's friendliness. Not pushy and don't give typical business-oriented feel.

Also heard that their current young installer was Dy*as*y top BMW installer:woowooo: Before going down can check out their website 1st.

Re: recomendation to do BMW audio system

Elo...

I wish to upgrade my car's sound system. I had change my original HU to Alpine CDA-9877. Now plan to change speakers ,1 sub.... and 2pcs amp

I wish to know is there any effect to the car electronic system after I upgrade my sound system?? Coz power amp will drawn more current consumption... My friend told me not to suka suka modify... later ECU or other electronic devices will "die" very fast... Don't know is true or not...

Please advise what should I do before I proceed with any upgrading. Ten Q

Hi Ah Yew, I guess u are referring to the Alpine 9887 right? In my opinion, u should not have any further issue as u already changed to aftermarket headunit, as most us here are always in a dilema whether to change away our stock headunit. With more current required after the adding of soundsystem, I think battery life span might become shorter. But since my adding of system till now already 1 yr +, still running on the same battery :)

U managed to use back your steering controls after the change of alpine? Which model yr ride?

Re: recomendation to do BMW audio system

Sorry bro... typo error... Is CDA-9887. I am driving E46 320i year 2003. Recond from Japan. Mine is not multifunstion steering. The original HU can only play MD. So change to Alpine lah..

Current consumption for HU is ok...my concern is on the power amp. Just like if change the headlight or tail light , sometime got error at the display. Example, you change 10watt to 25watt, than the message appear, or you install angel eyes... than alarm come...

Need more info from you all.... Thanks.....

ah yew, there's many beemers with aftermarket audio system - if you go to the list of respected installers then these problems should be minimized..

my car battery is still going strong 2+ years, and went to PML a few times - ECU no problem so far. if you read other threads, you'll see the installers' names mentioned pretty often.
