Re: Replace Stock Shock Absorber

Can you tell more info like what kind of standard you expect from the workshop and are you bringing your own shock absorber and are you going to keep the car for long etc.

The above info is essential before we can recommend, otherwise you may want to pick any of them from the here Site Sponsors
.
There is also another button at the top of the screen which is showing Recommended Partners, Vendors & Workshops that you can try too

I'm in a similar situation.... Front shocks are squeaky now.... Everytime I get into the car, my ride will squeal once like a rat... hahaha....

Planning to keep my '06 ride for now (partly thanks to crazy COE prices!!).... Now considering if I should replace with stock shocks or go aftermarket.... hmmm.... poison...

Same same , even though i have coilovers i can also hear knocking noise from the front especially going thru rough surface and uneven road. I guess squeaking shocks , brakes and rattling dash is a must have feature for the E90

Re: Replace Stock Shock Absorber

Just out of curiosity and maybe not relavent since the noise is from the front - does it squeak with the handbrakes down ?

Re: Replace Stock Shock Absorber

Quick review of the Koni FSD....

I've read that the FSD are meant to be paired with stock-height springs. Koni subsequently changed their position and paired it with the Eibach pro-kit for a lowered setup. Anyhow, I stuck with stock springs on my E90.

The setup somehow INCREASED my ride height! Possibly due to my old shocks being already worn out loooooong ago. I reminded the mech that the bump stops must not come into contact with the shocks during normal operation. Coz if it is so near and comes into contact with the shocks frequently, the FSD may be fooled into thinking its a "bump" and go into "soft" mode instead of "sport" or "hard" mode. The front bump stops were okay, but I had to trim about 1.5" off the rear bump stops (not in the picture).

Anyhow, handling was SIGNIFICANTLY improved. Possibly due to the fact I moved from worn-out OE shocks to the Koni's. Cornering turns are now MUCH more "confident", and car feels more "stable" at higher speeds. Normal smooth-road ride felt a little harder than what I would have liked - but then again it's probably what the "sport" mode should be.

Pot-holes still feel like.... well... pot-holes! Don't expect a miracle here. The damping was a little harsh over potholes, but I'd say certainly an improvement from my worn-out setup. The beauty of the FSD really comes when driving over speed stripes. Instead of a "thud, thud, thud" kind of feel, it's now closer to a "click, click, click".

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the shocks. The only thing that I'd need some getting used to is the increased ride height. When the mech first dropped the car back on to its wheels, we were literally SHOCKED by the height! I could fit all 5 fingers of my entire palm through the wheel well with room to spare!! And after driving around a little, and going through a few humps to let the new shocks settle, it came down to about 4.5-finger height - taller than my previous 3-finger height before the replacement. Anyhow, I'm gonna continue to let it settle over the next few days...

Will drive around a little bit more and provide updates (if any).

Re: Replace Stock Shock Absorber

Hi Mcqueen,

I also need to replace the shock absorber, can pm the price and workshop? Does it include the spring?

Cheers

Re: Replace Stock Shock Absorber

You typically won't have to replace the spring.... It should last waaaaaaaaaaaay longer than the shocks!
