A 44-year-old Singaporean man has been arrested in connection with the case of the body who was found stuffed inside a trolley bag floating off Sentosa on Saturday.
The badly decomposed body has been identified as Mr Wong Teck Siong, 28.
According to The Straits Times, the suspect is believed to have been in a close relationship with Wong, who was found clothed but with no identification.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday afternoon and will face charges in court. If found guilty of murder, he may be sentenced to death.
Wong's badly decomposing body was found in a luggage trolley bag by two foreign workers in the waters off a construction site at Resorts World Sentosa and brought ashore.
According to Chinese daily Shin Min Daily News, the body had been placed inside a luggage bag and dumped at sea.
The police were informed about the discovery at about 8.40am, and the man was pronounced dead by paramedics at 9.15 am.The man is believed to have been dead for two to three days.
RWS is building two hotels, a spa and maritime museum at the construction site, which is situated behind Underwater World.
The police are investigating the case.
Separately, a 36-year-old Chinese national was also found dead with a bloodied face in Marina Boulevard on Thursday morning.
Police said a passerby alerted them at about 6 am of the body, which was lying face-up on a bench along a walkway at The Promontory@Marina Bay, reported local daily MyPaper.
The man, who was pronounced dead at 6.30 am, suffered a laceration to the backof his head, said the police. They have classified the case as an unnatural death.
There is no indication the death is gang-related and no weapons were found at the scene. It is believed that the man's wallet, with cash intact, was found. His haversack was also found near the body.
