super crazy jerking during DRIVING

hi guys, its me again. this time round it is a persistent problem. started around may this year. Am driving a pfl e90, now when im at a complete stop and taking off, in first gear, if i push my accelerator too hard, it will jerk quite fiercely , like some other fella banging me from the back (no dirty thoughts pls). and if i try to accelerate more out of the jerk, it will jerk a few more times before going to the next gear. This doesnt really happen during the first gear, it can happen anytime. but more often on the first gear. sometimes, during 3rd to 4th gear, it can happen too. Im wondering if its the valves? or transmission problems? i sent it to a workshop to have it chekced, but they told me it may be the gears' wearing out, but they can;t confirm too...

do any drivers here face the same problem? Please help. its really quite dangerous when my baby is in the car..

Re: super crazy jerking during DRIVING

oh, and forgot to add that my car went into "safe" mode just last week when i tried to accelerate out of the continuous jerks.. i think quite serious sia..

Re: super crazy jerking during DRIVING

Try replacing the auto trans oil and filter to see if problem persists.

Re: super crazy jerking during DRIVING

Get PML to clear out your adaptations. And if it went into safe mode, the ecru will capture the fault. They will know what to do hopefully if it is not too complicated for them. And no it is definitely not normal.

Re: super crazy jerking during DRIVING

Very high chance your mechatronics unit (Valve body) kaput and thats a very expensive parts...(3-4k range) You can get ask PML to check bur dont repair there becos it will cost a bomb.

If you're under warranty, get it done at PML.

Re: super crazy jerking during DRIVING

My 5 yr old E90 320 has been maintained by R2D since my warranty expired. Rod is very gd at solving problems for this model.

Re: super crazy jerking during DRIVING

From the numerous complaints/feedback from forumers here, its evident that there is reliability problem with BMW E90 gearbox and BMW should take note and recall them and not wrap under cover..

My gearbox develop problem at just 39K mileage and thats one lousy gearbox and after s/w update it helps a lot in reducing the slight tucks during slown-down but occasionally I still feel it.

My camry is hitting 37K mileage and I whack it like hell and no problem so far and no fear also becos its on 5 years warranty.

Let see BMW has the balls to offer 5 years warranty on their cars.

I had the "jerking forward" issue during stopping. However, after I changed my aircon coil and cleaned the compressor and blower, besides having nice cool air, the jerking problem disappeared. Hence, if yoir aircon is due for servicing, get it done and see whether will it solve your problem....

Re: super crazy jerking during DRIVING

some find the problem...
i have e90 323 2008 120 000Km

.i have same problem the motor jerkin between 1500-3000rpm...every gear

Problem of transmission or motor...who's can help me

Re: super crazy jerking during DRIVING

similar to mine. i had a gearbox transplant.

if under warranty, go back to pml and have it rectified, else, rod is the person to go to.

good luck. it was really scary not knowing if the car would jerk and choke when you were driving off, overtaking, turning... mine went to the stage it'd do it even in reverse.

What was your mileage when you did the transplant and how much it cost?

around 80000km.

cost wise, below 10K but you'll need to be able to source another tranny from the scrapyard.

Re: super crazy jerking during DRIVING

if the repair cost is close to $10K, isn't it more worthwhile simply change car ?

yup it is. but that wasn't an option open to me then for other personal reasons.

Re: super crazy jerking during DRIVING

I had my gearbox changed at about 80,000km too but it is under PML warranty.

U can try BVO for 2nd opinion. it should be abt 6-8k, est.

Re: super crazy jerking during DRIVING

it seems like the gearbox tend to give way around 80,000+km milleage
those who intend to buy 2nd car must look out for the milleage used huh
ie: used milleage 50k and then use 30k (< 1.5 years) gearbox up lorry :(
