Torres and Drogba playing together? or Torres to Nou Camp?

Chelsea and Barca in for £50million Torres
Barcelona and Chelsea are in a race for Liverpool star Fernando Torres' signature this summer.

The Blues are said to table a remarkable £50million to bring the Spanish star to Stamford Bridge.

To top it up, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is set to offer El Nino a sumptuous £190,000-a-week package that looks too good for the Spaniard to turn down.

While Chelsea are going all guns to form a irresistible strike force of Torres and Didier Drogba, Barcelona is offering Torres a more attractive prospect of partnering David Villa, which has proved to such a lethal partnership for Spain.

Villa, who recently said that he would only leave Valencia if the club has no choice but to sell him, is reportedly in an advanced stage of talks with the Catalan club.

To raise funds for El Nino, the Catalan club is ready to offload Zlatan Ibrahimovich, who has had just a year at the Nou Camp after moving from Inter Milan. The Swedish international could move to rivals Real Madrid and reunite with Jose Mourinho, who is the hot favourite to replace Manuel Pellegrini at the Bernabeu.

According to The Sun, the prospect of playing with Villa will prove too tempting for Torres, which means the Liverpool No.9 would most likely snub the advances of Abramovich and head to the Nou Camp.

Barca going for Fab and Villa..... wonder if transfers will be firmed before or after world cup...

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

lots of news on the rumor mills going round.

makes everyone sit and anticipate the coming of the new season.....

i would like to think after the WC, more transfers will take place as the WC will surely turn some wannabes into global superstars, with clubs clambering for their signatures. :wavey:

and the bloody yankees better sell Liverpool to someone with cash by then, so that we can expand the squad! :shoot:

oh yes, torres better not go to chelski! and judging from his past words, he wouldnt play for Barca either.
lets pray that he is a man of his words....most importantly stay at Liverpool!

he will be even more popular if he stays....remember Batistuta? He stayed with Fiorentina even when they were relegated? Buffon? and a host of star names stuck with Juve while the club was in Serie B a few years ago? :boxing:
those players had cult status in their respective clubs and have gone on to be legends of their own right.

praying fervently Torres and Gerrard stays......:cloud9:

Barca gets stronger.....!

Barcelona have signed Valencia's David Villa in the first major transfer of the summer. The Spain striker has cost the Catalan club £34.2 million and will move to the Nou Camp after months of speculation over his future.

Villa, Valencia's top scorer in La Liga with 21 goals, will sign for four years and will be paid €7 million-a-season according to Catalan sports daily Mundo Deportivo.

He had been coveted last year by both Barca and Real Madrid, but Barcelona picked up the services of Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Inter Milan in a £40 million deal which saw Samuel Eto'o move the other way. Real opted to sign Karim Benzema instead.

A statement on Barcelona's official website read: ''FC Barcelona and Valencia CF closed a 40 million euro deal for Spanish striker David Villa on Wednesday morning.

''The Spanish international is due in Barcelona on Thursday evening and will have a medical on Friday morning. Villa will be officially unveiled as a Barca player at 1330 in the Paris Room of the Camp Nou. He'll then make an appearance on the Camp Nou pitch. The stadium doors will be opened to the public.''

Once the medical is completed he will join up with fellow Spain internationals Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique, Pedro and Sergio Busquets, all of whom are in the World Cup squad.

Tax is high in England... you can half that amount... still alot though!!!

All star teams dont exactly do well all the time. If 1 shines too bright, all the others will seem expensive flops. Blending is another issue.

LONDON: Rafa Benitez has had a dig at old foe Jose Mourinho claiming: I don’t know if he’s the right man for Real Madrid.
The Special One looks certain to replace Manuel Pellegrini as coach of the Galacticos after leading Inter Milan into tomorrow’s Champions League final.
Yet while the former Chelsea chief revels in his self-proclaimed lofty status, Benitez isn’t so sure.
And the Liverpool boss thinks Real could be dropping a clanger if they think the Portuguese coach is the man to turn them into European kings again.
The two men enjoyed almost constant verbal battles throughout Mourinho’s time at Stamford Bridge and will never be the best of buddies.
And Benitez insisted: “I know Mourinho has dreamed a lot of coaching Real Madrid but I do not know if he is the right person to train Madrid.
“Pellegrini has done a great job and deserves great respect because he’s still the coach and it’s not pleasant to hear about who’s going to replace you.”
Mourinho has admitted: “My only options are Madrid or Inter.
“To get me to leave this club after two years of incredible work, only Real Madrid could achieve that.
“If I go, I will move with a clear conscience having changed the club.” — The Sun, London

SAF defends Berba....:nutkick:

Ferguson: Berbatov is going nowhere
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has declared that under fire striker Dimitar Berbatov will be at Old Trafford next season.

Berbatov has been a pale shadow of his former self since a lucrative £30.5million move from Tottenham in 2008, scoring only 26 goals in two campaigns in the red of United.

Despite the 29-year-old's poor form and many observers believing that the Bulgaria international would become surplus to requirements this summer, Ferguson has been quick to refute the rumours.

"No, he will not be leaving- definitely not," Ferguson told The Mirror newspaper.

"There's a problem with Manchester United in terms of expectation and media attention.

"There's speculation every year and we've got to live with that hype.

"We know Dimitar is a good player and he will be with us next year.
