And do we really judge Rooney based on goals or the all-round play he was supposed to give Man U? He is supposed to be a forward like that o Henry..goals assists plus unpredictable explosiveness...now he is a confused figure...his overall games has dropped a few notches...do teams fear him when he is on the ball? Does he make good use of the ball? Is he able to create space for his team mates out of nth or for himself like VPS, Ronaldo, Tevez, Augeuro?

Rooney is like Tevez. But City has Tevez and Aguero. Most of the time, Rooney is alone.

Even in a 4-4-2 formation, Rooney's role is to run back to win possession. Again, I emphasize, Van Nistelrooy needs not do that - cause there was Roy Keane.

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

I agree that he need not track back to press defenders

But basic shooting technique and control of a striker not even there...hardly on target...again I say Defoe shooting better..

Look at Ba and Cisse from NewCastle..seriously..if they are Eng players..they would be named best strikers in the world...hype hype my friend...Rooney is simply overhyped...

Tevez shooting better than Rooney

if one say his outstanding ability is to track back and defend or running with immerse energy, then I always tell my Red Devil kakis...like that I might as well put a midfielder for me..aka Emile Heskey and S. Davies from Bolton..

Im confident to say no one will say his outstanding ability is shooting or control or passing...

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

Jermaine Defoe 2011/2012 BPL stats
games started: 11
sub appearance: 13
shots: 64
shots on goal: 25
goals scored: 10
% of shots on goal against shots: 39%

Wayne Rooney 2011/2012 BPL stats
games started: 31
sub appearance: 2
shots: 152
shots on goal: 68
goals scored: 26
% of shots on goal against shots: 44.7%

RVP 2011/2012 BPL stats
games started: 36
sub appearance: 1
shots: 170
shots on goal: 82
goals scored: 30
% of shots on goal against shots: 48.2%

These are figures from soccernet.

No I don't believe in hype, I believe in quantitative facts. Clearly, Jermaine Defoe's shooting is not better than Rooney. Is your assertion that Defoe's shooting is better based on hype?

When I watch him on the pitch, his movement off the ball is very good...but that's just my feeling. He is definitely not a forward like Henry, and neither would people expect him to be. He's more like a tougher but less technically gifted Bergkamp.

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

As we all know stats dont tell the full story..if thats the case, Leon Brittle (may have got it wrong) from Swansea will be named the best midfielder in the world for this percentage of completed passes...

No offence to you..anyone who plays football or knows football...will know Rooney shooting is worse than Defoe...the way he approaches the ball..the way he takes the ball...come on...this is football 101..apologies if I crossed the line..but im really baffled by ppl who heaps praise on Rooney,..the only striker sooo famous who cant really shoot well..pass nor control...and yes Im a Red Devil fan..no biased or anything...

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

Out and out striker, Rooney is not another Van Nistelrooy.

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

Not offended..I'm afterall an Arsenal fan. Just very surprised by your stance that Rooney should be shipped out. It's the first time I've heard such an extraordinary statement from a Man U fan.

It's like me saying that RVP should leave, or a Spurs fan saying Modric or Parker should leave.

Stats actually do tell the story as long as the player has played a good amount of games for the season. They tell the story more accurately than an individuals gut feeling.

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

exactly! what is he then? if he is not henry type bergkamp type ruud type..VPS type...?

simi lai eh...not deadly nor creative...then?

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

VPS is my most hated player..but he has my respect and admiration..Man U anytime

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

I take the Bergkamp comparism back, Rooney doesn't provide defense splitting passes often.

He is a Van Nistleroy with more legs. Receives the ball between the box and halfway line, distributes it, makes runs off the ball, arrifves late in the box and in front of the defender, poaches goals. He's definitely changed over the years...to suit the team

Rooney is a Drogba-Scholes hybrid.

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

Rooney is good, but I admit at times I do get the feeling, that he is not good enough for the team.

But I believe I have this feeling not cos he is not a good striker, but cos he spent quite a lot of time trying to win the ball in midfield, and we all judge Rooney to be a striker, hence want him to shoot at goal. Even if he gave a beautiful defence splitting pass to a team mate, probably we will appreciate more if the pass is from Scholes rather than Rooney.

Soccernet released an article on Rooney vs RVP. It's like they read our minds.

Ask Norman: Robin van Persie v Wayne Rooney, the three Robertos - ESPN Soccernet

LOL! VPS I hate him...but good players are often hated by rival fans...but I will welcome him or swap with you for him with Rooney...LOL!

VPS surprised me this season...he actually carried the entire team..the same cant be said of Rooney...cos we all heaped praise and deservedly so when Scholes came back and took the team back up...

I dont want a Ruud-Scholes Rooney...He is supposed to be special..like Mario Balotelli at his age now...I remember Rooney taking on the French defence...though he did not score..his presence and posession of ball alone struck fear and nervousness in the opposition defence...these days we all know..teams dont fear him...cut out supply in midfield you cut him out of the game...easy. I wished he was Roooney of old..fearless and explosive...strangely i feel he cud shoot better then...stunning volley aga Newcast...Fenerbance..Arsenal..etc..

Act I would heap praise on him if he cud do a defence splitting pass...but he cant! Argh!

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

Talking abt English forwards, other than Shearer, Fowler was the most natural finisher in UK....

Then there is a Les Ferdinand - Rooney is abit like him?
Of there was a young Owen.... No body places shots w ease like him anymore....

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

Forget to add the unfancied Kevin-score-goals-Phillips.

And the handsome Mathew Le Tissier.

Maybe Rooney is a hybrid of 70%Phillips and 30% Le Tissier?

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

When I see VPS, Drogba (younger version), Torres, Messi, C Ronaldo, Augeuro, Tevez, Higuain, Benzema.....top strikers in top teams...I see Rooney...sian half...but as Man U supporter, I always support him when he is on field...but he is frustrating to watch...
