I also have a 2009 318i. To improve my ride, I have done the following:
1) Reflash ECU - supposed to give an additional 20bhp and 25Nm: This mod gave me the most difference in real-world performance. I did not do a dyno test but the power/torque difference is very evident. You can try OBD Tuning or others for this. This is probably the most bhp/Nm gain for the buck you are going to get.
2) BMW Performance Silencer: I just did this upgrade at PML. I did not expect any performance gain from this mod but to my surprise there has been an increase in the responsiveness of the car. It feels like this change liberated sufficient hp/torque that I could feel it (butt feel!). The other advantage of this mod is that it now sounds quite cool with a low "bassy" sound when you rev. The large twin exhaust pipes also look cool and most importantly, it is also legal with LTA approval and checks.
3) Use 98 RON fuel - initially used Esso 95 RON, tried Shell fuelsave 95, Esso 98 RON (8000) and Formula Shell V-Power. The change to 98 RON gave the biggest difference. I suspect using 95 RON fuel was retarding the timing on my car. V-Power gave good power but fuel consumption very high. Best fuel so far is Esso 98-RON (8000).
That's all I have done for now. Car drives very nicely now. I am thinking of putting in the Air-Scoop from R2D but I think Rod/Nadia is away as I can't contact them. From reviews on this forum, this is probably the next best mod to give your ride that extra boost. I don't know about velocity or other throttle boosters as these do not give any real gains in bhp or torque - just step harder when you need to drive off quickly.
I hope this helps!
