Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

Re: Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

So how many horses/NM does the Throttle Controller add? It seemed like miracle drug for any car !!!

Re: Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

318 better get super light weight wheels i.e. must weigh 7-8kg range. 17" if possible...with narrowest tyres possible.

further extreme remove front motorised and rear seats...CF bonnet and trunk

From what i heard when i 1st installed Velocity, no bhp gain. No facts too. But feels good when driving.

It looks like holding your RPM and gives you that earlier acceleration. (I am just speaking from my experience, correct me if i am wrong) I did velocity as i am sure it does not screw up your ECU though. You can try Velocity 1st, selling mine off though.

When i did PB (ichy backside), i felt much difference. BHP gain was so called assumed as i did not do any dyno as yet to proven to me.

Re: Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

I also have a 2009 318i. To improve my ride, I have done the following:

1) Reflash ECU - supposed to give an additional 20bhp and 25Nm: This mod gave me the most difference in real-world performance. I did not do a dyno test but the power/torque difference is very evident. You can try OBD Tuning or others for this. This is probably the most bhp/Nm gain for the buck you are going to get.

2) BMW Performance Silencer: I just did this upgrade at PML. I did not expect any performance gain from this mod but to my surprise there has been an increase in the responsiveness of the car. It feels like this change liberated sufficient hp/torque that I could feel it (butt feel!). The other advantage of this mod is that it now sounds quite cool with a low "bassy" sound when you rev. The large twin exhaust pipes also look cool and most importantly, it is also legal with LTA approval and checks.

3) Use 98 RON fuel - initially used Esso 95 RON, tried Shell fuelsave 95, Esso 98 RON (8000) and Formula Shell V-Power. The change to 98 RON gave the biggest difference. I suspect using 95 RON fuel was retarding the timing on my car. V-Power gave good power but fuel consumption very high. Best fuel so far is Esso 98-RON (8000).

That's all I have done for now. Car drives very nicely now. I am thinking of putting in the Air-Scoop from R2D but I think Rod/Nadia is away as I can't contact them. From reviews on this forum, this is probably the next best mod to give your ride that extra boost. I don't know about velocity or other throttle boosters as these do not give any real gains in bhp or torque - just step harder when you need to drive off quickly.

I hope this helps!

Re: Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

eric, thanks!

how much did the exhaust at pml set you back?

Re: Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

I got it at 30% discount on the parts and 20% discount on labour because of a promotion at PML for BMW performance parts. Total cost including the $80+GST for LTA check was about $1400+.

However, I think the promotion ended on 31st May. If you are interested, maybe you can talk to PML to see if they can extend the promotion price to you.

many thanks!

I think they have different ones for different models. I installed it on my 335 and I absolutely love it. Very eh unconventional sounding hehe and no drone.

Separately, on the throttle device vs exhaust, it is all abt improving driveability. I prefer better driveability over sound. But all subjective I guess. If TS eventually will have both mods, it is juz a qn of which wad matters to him more for now. And if budget is an issue for now, then the cheaper mod beckons i.e. throttle device lor.

Re: Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

yups, t6, installed the pivot 3 drive liaos. anyways, lci 318 no suitable exhaust yet so... a sebring sets one back about 1k vs the tc (500+), so frankly, exhaust would have seem more viable but now since no have, just go for the tc 1st.

:)

the bmw one looks and sounds good though.

There is a version of the BMW Performance Silencer for the 318/320. It is the same model number for both cars. I think the BMW performance exhaust for the 4 potters is quite new in the market. Previously, BMW only made this item for the 6 cylinder engined cars.

Re: Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

just called PML parts dept.
318/320 BMW performance silencer cost $1,625 (before gst) for parts only

Re: Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

with 30% discount, sounds good na!

Re: Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

I just pimped up my e90 318i with the BMW Peformance Silencer. Bought the unit fm PML & gt it fixed at FK because PML needs 2 days for installation.

The result is awesome, response is immediate & the mid range is gd. Sound is bassy compare with stock, yet discreet.

Re: Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

did they say warranty void because you install outside :lol2:

enjoy the bassy vroom vroom :woottt:

Yes I agree with your comments. Very nice upgrade for my 318 too. I am extremely happy with this purchase. I only wanted a nicer look and better sound but suprisingly this mod also came with better performance.

Re: Throttle Controller or Exhaust?

Is it significant louder in the cabin at low and high rev and any dronning effect?
