Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

At the end of the day, after much reflection, I realised it would be quite hurtful for Mdm. Lim & the family of the late taxi driver, to be reminded of the accident over and over, either through the graphic video capture of the moment of the crash, or from reading various comments (both in support and/or otherwise) about it.

I further realised that there's the feelings of the innocent family of the PRC driver to consider. As much as I have my personal feelings about him causing the accident (via the video capture), I can't help but feel sorry for the wife, the daughter & the unborn child. They had nothing to do with the PRC driver's idiocy and recklessness, but they are still hurt by the incessant comments (many of which are acerbic, some of which are downright hateful) made about the PRC driver.

Finally, not forgetting the family of the Japanese passenger - surely, in amongst these 2 camps (one for the taxi driver, the other for the PRC man), the innocent passenger's family must be feeling lost, confused & frustrated.

Things have not been made easier for anyone, what with the biased and downright rotten reporting by the so-called 'journalists' of the Propaganda Times, who, for reasons best known to themselves, chose to report on hearsay "he was a righteous man, he was not a heavy drinker", played up the wealth of the PRC "millionaire in his 30s driving a million dollar car" and could not, for the life of them, focus on factual, unbiased and clear reporting. This only served to fan the flames of discontent amongst certain readers (myself included).

I guess being the sole 'approved' Propaganda organ, with no FT competition (since no other licence would be awarded) has blunted whatever little journalistic skill & erased whatever journalistic integrity there's left in these 'reporters'. They are perhaps better at chasing 48 masked & hooded men, snapping away at blurry shadows of these same 48 men scurrying away from the Sub. Courts, than they are at writing a decent piece of news.

So, given all these factors above - especially given the needless, senseless, tragic loss of 3 lives (yes, Ma Chi's included), I humbly apologize for my own comments, especially if they've offended anyone here, directly or indirectly. Furthermore, I shall refrain from further comments in this thread - enough is enough, and I think it's time I let the families grieve in peace.

Your mileage may vary, and I respect that.

Thanks for correcting that, hitmee.

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

Just to highlight for those convinced there's some kind of conspiracy or cover-up - ST report today mentions that toxicology report is being prepared. Totally routine and normal step in accident investigations, but for some reason some people doubted it.

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

aside from all the news abt this recently, what I found most ridiculous is that the SCDF ambulance sent the jap to SGH, Not Raffles hospital RIGHT BESIDE the accident... what is wrong with our garmen that they cannot send to the nearest hospital, public or private???

Those minutes saved could have saved her life! I cannot imagine if I got into an accident at bugis & SCDF turned up they have to drive 15-20mins to the nearest public hospital?????

I asked a doctor friend on Sunday. Here's his reply:

"this involves catchment areas that have been set in stone. this is one of the major problems faced by patients and ambulance ppl.. for example, if the patient has been followed up in SGH his whole life, seen doctors there, had operations there.. say he suffered an accident or heart attack within the TTSH catchment area, even if the patient gave explicit instructions to be sent to SGH (primary care giver) for continuity of care, the ambulance ppl are obligated (and have no choice but) to send him to TTSH.

similarly, if you take the example of the old Alexandra hospital. one of its catchment area boundaries is the road between the hospital and alexandra village (beyond that is SGH catchment). I would suggest to anyone that has an accident in that vicinity, please crawl across the road to alexandra village area so you will be brought to SGH instead of Alexandra.. (which is now known as Jurong General Hospital, and run by locum doctors).

raffles hospital at night is run by skeleton staff. mostly locum doctors and non-specialists. i assume they have one a&e consultant on duty. other than that, i dont think they would be able to handle an emergency of this scale."

"an issue that arises with the first scenario i gave was that doctors in TTSH will be blindsided initially because they have incomplete and sparse medical records about that patient on the online records system. detailed info and visits to SGH will be on hardcopy / servers in SGH.

two options - a) ask for medical records to be copied and sent to TTSH, b) stabilize patient and send back to SGH after discussing with the doctors there

problem with both is - extremely time consuming. it will take at least 1-2 days before medical records arrive. and valuable time lost because the best ppl to take care of the patient are in the other hospital."

"if i'm not wrong, non-private ambulance staff are not allowed to send patients to private hospitals.

there is a lack of the concept of altruism and beneficence in this sense. who put these guidelines in place, or what agreements have been made between private and non-private organizations puzzles me."

even parkway grp of hospitals dont have specialists overnight lor. Im saying at least theres an operating table so that the A&E can do their do thing. Ive been to parkway at 5am n no specialists is there either but at least theres a doc there to administer.

24 Hour Clinic Singapore | Call 6311 1555 for Ambulance Transport

Quote from Raffles hospital website:
"
The 24 Hour Emergency Department located at Raffles Hospital provides round-the-clock emergency care for all age groups from children to the elderly.
