If the insulator prevents the bonnet from heating up too much, it means that the engine bay gets correspondingly a lot hotter, with less heat dissipation taking place since most of it is kept in by the insulator. Surely this can't be too good for the engine?? I would think the large surface area of the bonnet helps to dissipate most of the heat generated by the engine. So keeping it in can't be good.
