Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

Re: Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

hi
try ah hoe of South East Tires. very experienced guy.
a regular with him for 10years already.

Re: Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

Yes, tried South East but I did not like his attitude. Talked as if I was troubling him. Perhaps he is only friendly to regular customers.

Re: Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

I just did my rim with Leong Seng and am very satisfied. Thanks for the lead.

Re: Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

Hi guys...any idea if these shops are able to fix rims with polished lips? I had a lil incident with the curb at the immigration at Tuas...it looks pretty bad and i'm skeptical if it can even be repaired :(

Re: Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

Only way to fix the polished lip is to grind it down. And then wet sand it.

That's the only way.

Re: Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

Thanks for the info Azrielsc, i found the thread where CBS went to get his rims fixed, but that was 2 years old. I'll probably give them a call to see if they still provide this service but know of any other places that can do this?

Re: Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

Is the scratch really bad? Got a photo of it?

Cuz I went to Hurry tires and had them filed down. I then personally wet sanded the patch and its quite difficult to see the curb after that.

wouldn't wet sanding with fine sand paper still cause discolouration?

Re: Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

It is fine for polished lip. Of course, after wetsanding, the surface would be blurry but after a few rounds of metal polish (Meguiar's NXT metal polish), the shine comes back again.

A polished lip is harder to maintain as it gets dull easily and water stains easily form. However, the redeeming factor of having a polished lip is that it is repairable.

Chrome lips are more bling and easier to maintain. Brake dust etc is easily removed BUT if u curb it, it's next to impossible to repair, because chrome is only a layer on top of the metal. Unlike polished where the metal is actually polished to a high gloss finish.

i spent the last 2wks before CNY repairing my Iforged Daytonas polished lip. Here's a photo:

Here's another (Please ignore the dust on the lip!):

Cheers & good luck!

Unfortunately, I don't. But I guess many pple in the forum has seen how bad they were before. The barrels of the rims were caked in brake dust, all black! And on the lips were watermarks, scratches and brake dust that ate into the rims.

Hurry would just file them down and wet sand them, but its always better to do it yourself! :) I heard South East & Leong Seng do similar repairs too. U may want to give them a call to check.

Did not like the guys attitude at south east. Was too busy and conveniently told me they do not do repair services.....

Re: Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

Ahhh... However, I can understand the guy's attitude after restoring my rims myself. :)

The amt we are willing to pay to restore a rim doesn't usually equate to the time and effort by the person doing it, maybe that's the reason for his reluctance.

Anyways, good luck then! :)

Does that mean that after the wet sand, all i would need to do is polish the rims? I can live with that...heck, the rest of my rims could do with a polish too :p

Re: Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

Yup, but a lot of polishing is needed to bring back the shine. Remember that u are filing, sanding, polishing metal... it could take a while and a lot of elbow grease!

Re: Urgh! Scratched my rims. Need help.

in that case, not all the rims are gonna get a polishing...i just re read that it took u two weeks on ur set of rims...LOL!

Will i have to file and sand the rims as well? And forgive my ignorance but with metal polish, how is it applied?

Not true. Got mine (original BM rims not purchased from them) repaired by them. They gave me 2 spare rims with tyres to tahan until rims were fixed. Overall, very good service. :)
