What Could Be the Problem-E90

Was making a left filter & find the road pretty empty so step a bit more on the gas pedal (maybe max around 4000rpm cause not looking at it), after about 2-3 secs (most probably after gear change) i heard some grr.. grr.. grr (something like gear turning) sound so release the accelerator a bit shortly & drive at standard rpm. After few hundred metres, realise the car like no power, driving at slow speed but rpm feels pretty high & the smaller needle below is almost at it's peak all the time. All the while at higher than standard rpm range but car at pretty low speed for another 300-400 metres till i about to stop the car cause reach destination.

Upon stopping of car while still & D, the whole car was vibrating/jerking very badly. After few secs put into R & try to park it, vibration persist. After parking put to N, vibration remains but slightly less serious. Put to P thinking it may go off, but the car still jerks/vibrates quite badly till i turn off the engine.

After about 30 mins (errand done & leaving), the car starts without the bad jerk/vibrations but still feels like no power, rpm higher than standard even during low speed & pretty unstable most of the time. Changing of gears not smooth at all.

Mine is 06' E90 323, what could be the problem? Plugs, coils, gearbox..?? Any advise greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Whats the approx. damage like, is it gonna be a big job?

Sorry for noob question & thanks.

Re: What Could Be the Problem-E90

go to workshop and plug in the diagnostic tool
if ignition coils ... straight away will pinpoint which coil misfire ... normally change all ignition coils and plugs at one go ... :D

bosch coils is about $65 per pc ... 6 x coils + 6 x plugs ... if the problem is really ignition coils

Re: What Could Be the Problem-E90

Sorry to hijack your thread, coincidentally, i faced a similar problem as you vexxus on my E90 Lci , just only 1 hour ago.

Was cruising along highway at 100km/h , suddenly felt lost of power on car. Depressing the accelerator only leads to increase in rev but hardly any power output, instead, some jerking was felt in the engine.

Upon filtering to smaller roads and traffic lights, realised that the vehicle RPM was extremely erratic and seemed to be on the verge of shutting down (hovering erractically between 450 - 900rpm)

My fear came true when i tried doing a reverse, the whole vehicle seemed to go into a trance with unstable revs and even die off while on very slow speed. Engine was able to restart after a longer then usual crank but one can see that it could not maintain a stable rpm and engine seemed to be more eager to die off..

I have ruled out battery and engine oil problems as i just serviced, replaced batt and EO just 3-4 weeks ago at PML itself.

Could it be o2 sensor ? MAF sensor? or even like what ac323 suggested, ignition coil ? Piston misfire ? My ride is only 71k mileage and about 4 years old ...

Appreciate any good suggestions / remedies .. going to one of the sponsors workshop tmr .. sigh .....

7 months old F10 with burning smell & smoke from engine bay.....??!

Could it be the haze instead...

What day is it today, so many bimmers kena similar problem... on a new F10 some more...!?!

Re: What Could Be the Problem-E90

Yah stressful . Waited 30 mins for Tow truck ... breathing smoke too !:silenced:

Guess its not my day .... or the the car .:helpp!:

Its Now more about the reliability worry than the peace of mind that it is still under the warranty .

I got this feeling too that if we need masks, the cars are also taking in particles into the air intake. Maybe it will be worthwhile to do an engine oil change after this haze.

Just yesterday 2 cars caught fire I read....1 old merc and 1 nissan or something.

I suspect mine could be on fire if I did not turn of the whole thing . Thankfully the 24 hr assistance is super professional .
really clueless now ... seee smoke means real bad I reckon !

Don't panic, just the car releasing some haze it breathes in...
