1) It's direct competitor has to be Merc. Audi is good but driving dynamics does not match BMW.

Great brand and great car but somewhat over-hyped by motoring journalists on comfort and ride. Don't misunderstand me, the drive is great with that rear wheel drive but not as composed as I would like in a luxury 5 series. Just came back from Jakarta and it never fails to impress me with those C-Class & E-Class Silverbirds Airport Limousines. Sat in an E-Class yesterday on way to airport and the ride comfort, composure and sound insulation was superb.

I had Italian Fiat (loved them long ago); Japanese Mitsubishi, Mazda; Swede Volvo; 5 Mercedes including a 2nd hand 300x24SEL; nothing compare to BMW - had a E28 520 (enjoyable when it's working well, overall not so good experience), E39 520x2.2i - WOW! E46 320x2.2i - v.good, E60 520x2.2i - good, E90 320 4 cyl - so so, and now F30 335i - WOW!!!

Same as some of forummer here too, in and out workshop became a regular life after owning bmw but i am not regret to own it.

What else can give you more pleasant and enjoyable driving experience beside BMW?

My take, Vehicle Performance is an important factor and the two distinctive brands competing neck to neck imho are Audi and BMW. I have heard way too much on Audi's megatronics and gearbox so BMW seems like a better alternative.
