apparently yes.. but it also says the torque comes much earlier. In my opinion, and this is not bias cause i own the N42, i feel the N46 more tame in power delivery and the N42 with more urgency.. Don't quite know why. Thats from my butt dyno at least...

It is possible. In fact, no need stock M3 exhaust also can. Companies make these exhausts for the sedan/coupe ala M3 style. Angled further outwards for even less cutting of the sparetire well. Try the Eisenmann Quad tips. www.eisenhaus.com

The E46 exhaust piping also has a different route(bend) from the E36. Expect it not to fit flush into the allowed space for the stock E36's exhaust.

Eisenmann makes quad tip exhausts... However i believe to install proper quad tip exhausts on regular e46's(sedan and coupe), with proper meaning ala M3, you will need to cut into your spare tire well. Can double check with Eisenhaus. They sell Eisenmann exhausts. www.eisenhaus.com...

Just pop your head under your car. For my 4pot valvetronic, its 2 off the headers into 1 pipe. That goes into 1 box, i can assume its the cat. Then further into 1 more box, the resonator. Then the muffler. For my gf's 2.2l 320i, it has 3 pipes down to 2 pipes off the headers...

For the E46's and most newer models of BMW, the boxes are either made by ZF of General Motors Europe(The Hydramatic box) I doubt BMW utilizes the services of a Japanese gearbox maker.. :)
