all proud owners of the new 2006 3 series out there,

i am making a decision between 320i and 323i, is $24K of different to get a Six-cyln, is it worth that money? is the Four-Cyln powering 320i good enough or just that bad?

many thanks for your kind feedback.

Cheers!

Re: 320i or 323i

BMW has always been very very famous for the 6cyl, not that the 4 cyl is not good.. it is.. but IMHO .. get the 6cyl..it's a totally diff thing.

Re: 320i or 323i

which ever car u choose, just put a side another 20k to mod it up. :)

1. stock suspension needs to go
2. stock steering needs to go
3. 16/17 inches rim needs to go. IMH E90 needs 19inches
4. not forgetting all the cosmetic mods.
5. oh yes, CAI and exhaust too

Re: 320i or 323i

I got the 320i but at that time, there was yet to have a 323i. But if I were to choose a 6 cylinder BMW 3 series, I would get the 325i instead.

For paying the same road tax, I don't think a 323i is worth it. So for myself, its either the 320i or the 325i. (Higher cost forbids me from the latter though....:()

Re: 320i or 323i

althaus,

are you satisfy and happy with the performance of your 320i?

do you feel the car is underpowered?

many thanks!

Re: 320i or 323i

Png, sometimes when you are looking to overtake in the low revs, you will feel its a bit underpowered. But at higher revs, I think it works adequately for Singapore's roads. But I guess if you come from a more powerful car (ie. Evo or Rex) maybe you might feel the 320i is underpowered.

Extra power is always welcome, but the 320i should be enough for city driving, and local expressways. The main drawback is the engine noise and the engine bay cos the I-6 engine just looks so much better than the I-4.

Re: 320i or 323i

I had to make this decision 2 months ago. Although I agree with everything that althaus says, and I was given that advise then as well, I went with the 323i. If I had the extra $$$ I would have gotten the 325. The 6 cylinder engine was what won out in the end, notwithstanding the power.

Hi Png,

I find the 320i a good drive even though its a 4 cylinder. It's got a willing engine that spins very well. But spending an extra 24K will probably make you a more satisfied 3 series owner as BM makes very fine 6 cylinder engines.:)

png, so in the end u get a 320 or 323..or better stil a 325? share your decision experience?:juggle:

Re: 320i or 323i

Tested all few times. Go with 325i. 323i nice but slow compared with turbo cars or IS250. 330i great! IL-6 hard to beat for sound.

Re: 320i or 323i

depending on your needs on the road...

the 320 is the top of the line 4 cyclinder in the E90 line-up... churning 150bhp with 200Nm of torque should be more than sufficient today...

however, with the 6 cyclinder engines, you should be able to mod more and put up to 19" wheels so that acceleration is not compromised...

Re: 320i or 323i

as long as its a BMW, its good enough

i would have bought a 320i myself, but previous i was driving e46 330i,so i just couldnt bare to downgrade and kick my balls later.

if this is your first BMW,than 320 will do just fine.

but a lot of people kick their balls when 323 came out.

cheers

Re: 320i or 323i

i tested the 320i, nice drive for city driving, almost mind set on

then i tested 323i, hmm............... i'll say 320i and 323i are two different cars

now........... happily driving my new E90 323i

Cheers!

Re: 320i or 323i

Agreed with what the bro said.

If this is your first BMW, I think the 320i is good enough (if your budget limits). I'm driving a E46 318i SE and I think a 2000cc Valvetronic it is quite sufficient on Singapore roads and expressway. (I usually have 3 adults and 2 kids in the car. A BMW is a good car despite what model it is. There are still so many quatities about his car for you to enjoy as a keen driver.

If you are a frequent M'sia visitor, going at an averaqe of 160kmh and doing lots of mid rev overtaking, then you might find additonal power would be most ideal. Otherwise, I would rather save the 24K and be less mindful with mileage / fuel usage for the years ahead. Afterall, you will find it being such a good car to drive that you will eventually want to take it out on for a spin more often than to keep it in the garage.

Re: 320i or 323i

I thought the price now for 320i is 129k and 323i is 146k? can anyone confirm this? thanks.

Re: 320i or 323i

320i is good enough for singapore road. i would say you can overtake 65% of the cars (taxi, corolla, sunny etc)

but to really feel the magic of BMW, go for a 6 pots. mod potential higher too.
if u buy a 320i, there will always be some regrets later. like me now! ha

Re: 320i or 323i

Congratulations on your new ride. That is the way I went too. I was set on the 320, I was going to sign on the line for the 320, then I tried the 323 for a second time and scratched the 320 on the order form and filled in 323...........

Re: 320i or 323i

let me add one more confusion to this thread :lol2:

My own perspective having own a 320i for 8 months now and this is my first BMW (last time Ah Beng drives ZHENG cars :screwedu: ). Also having driven or sat in other BMWs, I can say this:

Is the 320i gud enuf for SG driving(everyone will ask before they buy)
Beng: Yes

Why?
Beng: Bcos if beng can drive, so can you

320i not so gud vs 323/325 right?
Beng: KNN unless one is an idiot, of cos lah.

So shld I buy 320 or 323 or 325?
Beng: I think if u can really afford, then buy the 330 or 335. To me, when BMW design n build this E90, it was modelled for the 3 litres engine. 320,323,325 are all scaled down versions to suit diff customers. If my taokay gives me 12 month bonus next year, I will throw away my 320i and buy the 335i. That means to me buying the 320/323/325 is matter of budget. Kudos to all 330i owners anyway.

320i can cheong? How? Overtake got power?
Beng: Can of cos. Just HOOT to DS mode. Ah beng does that every morning along CTE. When my wife sit next to me, and she saw I HOOT the DS mode, the next thing she does is grab the ceiling handle.....got it?
