after reading all these HPFP and turbo issues, I think best is still NA engines.. safe and reliable like golilok's 528 N52 inline 6

hi guys,

i'm thinking of getting a 335, but after reading all the HPFP failures and the hassles of leaving your car at the workshop....just wondering does this issue only affects the turbo models ? so the 325 coupes are ok?
Would appreciate any advise on getting a pre own 325 coupe or 325 convertible

thanks :)

(1) You cannot identify HPFP issues before hand. HPFP = high pressure fuel pump. Can occur multiple time on one car and none on another.

(2) Not O2 sensor related

(3) Damage for a full replacement = $1200 parts + labour thereabout.

Bro,

You owning old CL7R before ??
+++

1.2k + labour ... labour is about how much ?
then i heard senior hitmee say o2 senor another problem ?

What other usual problems on 335i coupe ?

Re: Advice needed! Thinking of Buying a 2nd hand 335i....

NO HPFP issues for past 2 years of ownership (135i) TOUCH WOOD.

Actually, is it really that common of an issue for N54 ? I don't believe that I'm that lucky. Anyway 1.2k for replacement is not that steep, to enjoy the torque that this engine delivers.

Re: Advice needed! Thinking of Buying a 2nd hand 335i....

HPFP and ABS pump + ECU replaced, suspension rubber mounts replaced.

car drives like a dream now......

for $160-180k, i doubt you can get the performance and bundle of torque at this price point.

personally i would go for

1.Coupe over Cabrio (leaks and rattling noises)
2. 6spd auto over DCT (IMHO the 6spd auto should be able to hold more power and more reliable in the long run)
3. N54 engine - twin turbos, double the smiles ! (plus its used in the 1M and possibly new F30 M3)

Never own an Euro R, but used to have a EK4

Parts is around 800.

O2 sensor minor issue for DP change.

Except the GTR, but the maintenance number is in a different league.

You are right on the N54.

if getting a pre owned 335, no more warranty and getting the HPFP fixed outside cheaper/original parts?

Looking to get a pre owned 325, its a 2007 model with ~70k km. didn't test drive yet, but dealer switched on engine and i heard a rattling sound that went off after awhile. Dealer said its normal

I test drove another unit of similar specs/mileage, and found a "wooooon" noise when i fully turned the steering to full right (or was it left..cant remember). And dealer said this is normal for 325...

Are both cars normal?

And would appreciate any other advice /things to look out for :)
thanks in advance!

No rattling or sound when full left to right on family's 09 325.

Unless you are already at full left or right and holding it there, you should hear the power steering pump doing its thing. That is normal.
