Air Con problem: not cold !

Hi Everybody

Just wanted to know if anyone can advise on this weird problem:

I am driving a E46 ( Feb 1999 ) 1898cc Saloon car. Recently my aircon went kaput: :mad: the air blowing out is not cold at all! I went straight to my aircon specialist and after a check, even he could not diagnose what is the problem with my aircon! He claimed that my aircon compressor is ok and there is enuf gas. The aircon man then said that maybe the E46 needed a car reset and asked me to go back to my car workshop. However, my car mechanic did not do anything and later after my lunch, the aircon was back to work again!:furious:
It has never happened to my E46 before and guess what on the first day of CNY, it went kaput again on the night b4! the next day, I started my E46, and without doing anything, the aircon is fine and working perfectly.

I am suspecting my aircon would breakdown again pretty soon !
Can anyone or any expert out there care to give me some advise? Thanks.

Hi liverp001,
I seem to have the similar problem few days ago, the air coming out from the aircon vent are mxied with warm air. call Performance, and they are pretty sure that it may need to repalce the aircon condensor whcih is going to cost me $1,800 !!!

Is your problem the some and how and where did you solve it? Thanks

My aircon also not cold and got a foul smell coming out. i took my car to aircon service singapore and now at least it is better abit already.

8486, you got charged $1800 for a new condenser?

Hi Chanel 26,
I changed many items to solve one problem :(

It costed me almost $2,500 at the end of the day! This includes compressor unit, drier, radiator assembly, condenser, fan assembly and other parts that associated to these main component.

I'm writing this on the bus on my way home after dropping my 5-year old 320i at an aircon workshop in Jalan Kayu... The aircon coil is gonna cost me $1380!! I'm still trying to cool down in the bus aircon...

Hi guys, I bought a 2.5yrs E60 and it is currently undergoing a thorough check in PML. Received a call from the customer service officer and was told that the air-con compressor needs to be replaced and as it is under warranty, it is free. I also talked to the service technician and was told that it is a common problem and that BMW parts breakdown is quite frequent due to the electrical components. I'd appreciate if fellow forumers can share with me your experience abt your ride, is the breakdown as frequent as mentioned? I'll be officially taking over the car on Fri once the repair is done. I've to say that I've mixed feelings and would appreciate some vote of confidence. Thanks to all!

I had the same problem,no cold,switch at lowest with 4bar blower..but my passenger behind with complain of HOT..day n night.....ask around, afew shops at sin ming"professional in car aircon",was told tat my car compreeser is spolit...head down to R2d to install air scoop n ignition upgrade...& told him my aircon problem....using a aircon dynos kit(not those typical 1 small tank with 2 round guage type)...done in 20mins time...great job rodney...now switch to 21" blower 1bar..TABOLEH TAHAN already...well done rodney....

I received a call from PML today and was told that they didn't have one of the parts for the compressor and will have to leave the car there till next Wed. Was told that they require 3days to fix the compressor and they would only receive the part on Monday! Is this reasonable? Sigh

Try replace Aircon filter and charge the refrigerant.

Wahaha! Maybe you can arrange for a swap with bro liverp00l's aircon!! Then both of your will be happy!

my aircon come out warm air during start-up.. lagi jialat... sibei heater during summer.

$ob, $ob.... Today, my '06 E90 aircon also not cold.... was told that most probably aircon coil. Was quoted $850 for replacement, but need to leave car for 1 day.... haiz....

Hi Bros,
So far, what I did within one week:
1. change 4 new brake pads and rotors
2. changed all liquids in the car incl. EO, ATF, Brake, Transmission + even Oil Pan
3. aircon kaput on Sat, so hot to drive around w/o AC, sweating like a horse in the car with all windows wound down = change new compressor today, car was whole day at workshop, now no need to sweat while driving

next: need to change some bushings front and back

damn siong, hopefully, nothing to be changed soon .......but still enjoying the ride ......but sometimes while sleeping, wonder why I did not buy the Lexus Luxury version I tested before buying the bimmer...but cest la vie, try to make the best of it and keep telling myself I made the right choice in buying the ultimate driving machine
