Audio system upgrade - No mess

Hello 5 series Bimmers..
realised that 5 series does not come with tweeters, only 4 inch speakers and 6 inch low bass speakers below 2 front seats. So, i replaced it with Hertz Hi-Energy 4 inch speakers, Hertz tweeters and 2 low bass space 8 inch speakers acting as woofers powered by 4 channel Audison amplifer. Fantastic improvement overall for this simple Passive set up, no mess, simply components replacment.......
I am just a satisfied customer after much research to replace components speakers without giving up space...

yah, once need to tia door panels or dashboard or whatever is in place, I pass..the stock sound system is fine... by the way..whats the damage?

Hi all,
there is No tweeter speaker inside the wing mirror...you can call PML to verify...

For package deal, pls call them for quotation....anyway, i got a good deal...you can mention my name for their reference.......

Hertz / Audison Package ( from Italy)

2 x 4 inch mid speakers ( Hertz Hi-Energy)
2 x Hertz space tweeters
2 x Hertz space woofers 8 inch ( install below 2 front seats)
1 x LRX 4 channel amplifer AUDISON.

I did something similar to my E60LCI couple of months ago at Swift Motion ... Morel components F&R + Rainbows underseat driven by 5 ch Blaupunkt. No drilling or cutting ... just to open up whole lot of panels.

Much much better than horrible stock set.

BTW, my previous car was the 1st batch of E60 ... and those came with tweeters ... looks like Germany became too complacent after a while .. or their engineers lost their ears

Hi all,
just to share some research i've done prior making final decision on Hertz speakers/Audison Amp package...

1. Focal speakers - excellent in Vocal, but pitch too high for FM
2. Hertz - good for general music - Jazz, Pop, Vocal (soft)...
3. Moral - similar as Hertz..but more low bass

But Audison Amplifier and Hertz speakers are under same company...therefore their combination must have gone through optimum tuning....i guess......

For quote, price range about +/-SGD3K for my package, depending on the audio wires, connectors, sound proof brands you choose...

Honestly, i thought original stock speakers are ok, but after installing this new system, no regret, much much better, i can hear vocal, high frequency, low bass separately( under seat)....wow

this thread should be moved to the ICE section i think... mods ?!

anyway, to be honest ....any decent upgrade would be hell alot better than stock.

installing the midbass under the seats is wrong though, imho.

Hi all,

by the way, i did not know there is a ICE discussion forum here...my apology..

installing mid bass as woofers below seats are perfectly ok, and in fact much better as you can feel the PUNCH....compared to woofers in the boot....it is very much depends on the tuning of the amplifer...

This workshop is able to dismantle BMW without causing BMW computer malfunction/error....but it takes ONE FULL DAY to do it...

and i beg to differ that installing below the seats is "better".

Hi frankiel, so you are the 5-series they said they did up when I was talking to them. Like you, I don't want mess and was very drawn to the same setup as yours, only mine is E90 and according to them, installation would not be a problem.

Possible to meet to take a listen? :)

Hey frankiel and SMP, since both of you are happy customers, why not both of you drive your cars and show to the forum members to admire? I notice both of you are new members, so why not mix around? We should organise a kopi session to admire you ICED up cars.

BTW I agree with oneheadlight, your threads sure sound like advertising.

i am driving 523....and i seldom post in forum. Reason for me to post this info as i just want to share my simple passive system setup with components replacement, and one 4 channel amp...no boot space wasted and system very very much improved.

I am ok to meet up after work or weekend, but after 19 Sep, cos i am in overseas now....cheers!

I did the same setup as you at SW. Now a happy customer, never thought music can sound so pleasing in the car. Pls do sms me to meetup to share how we could fine tune further.... thinking of adding processor soon. Will PM u my mobile.

Hi Bros, allow me say few words of fairness. This thread do sound like an advertising ad to some. But as a 'old' time customer of SW, I feel they really deserve some credits, or at least mine credits.

One of few things that i like about this installer is they don't rush through the installation process to do a handover, instead they will arrange for enough time to do a good job, even if they have to do OT. So far, I am very pleased with their workmanship. Their pricing is reasonable and justificable with the quality of installation, especially with their super neat wirings laying :)

Hi Frankiel,

Please may I ask if there was an amplifier already powering the 2 6" subs under the seat?

I am asking because I was considering buying the earthquake sws 8 to directly replace the existing ones (as recommended on other forums) and I was wondering if our singapore cars had an amplifier so that we can:

1. use the existing wires of the subs, and
2. Tap the low signals for input

If not, where did you mount your new amplifier? My car is a june 04 E60 520i and I did not find any amplifier in the rear trunk above the wheel well.

Hello DLAU,
you cal call up PML to verify...but i think below 6 inch speakers are drived by the original BMW headunit with limited power ( probably less than 30W RMS)....it is better to install a separate powerful amplifier to drive your good speakers......
i plan to visit Soundwerkz next Saturday 20 Sep(AM ) for final tuning after 4 weeks of run-in setup...i am in overseas now.....cheers...Frankie

you can drop by to meet up for Kopi ( Whampoa Market, good food and cheap) and comment on my audio set up.....
