I think there definitely are more difference to it than just this...
If not why do Kelleners provide 2 different package for the 320i and the 328i?
Just take a look at their tunes:
320i (N20B20): increase from 184 hp / 199 lb-ft to 220 hp / 238 lb-ft
328i (N20B20): increase from 245 hp / 258 lb-ft to 294 hp / 309 lb-ft
335i/135i/535i (N55B30): increase from 306hp / 295lb-ft to 367hp / 354lb-ft

Don't have to guess same or different. Just go check part number you will know what is same and what is different. Similarity is a lot more than we think. Bmw has that part locator portal, similar to realoem, but operated by bmw...
Hearsay most of those tuning/chipping boxes are just signal interceptor box. They take the boost pressure reading from boost pressure sensor, then tell ecu the boost is lower than it really is. I mean it has to be so because most of those boxes only tap from 1-3 sensors.

Yup, it just fakes the boost, and fuel control. Which if controlled similarly, wun 2 equal blocks provide the same (or much closer) output?
Now we are looking at 220 vs 294... Pretune, we were looking at 61hp difference between the 2. Post tune it becomes 74hp? I would only expect the 2 numbers to be closer.

No, they will not have the same power because end of the day still go through ecu...if the boost sensor reading is too high, ecu will go into limp mode. How limp is limp mode? Just unplug your boost pressure sensor and you will know liao. Drives like an old strawberry.
Anyway, 220hp vs 294hp are just claimed figures, though 220hp is on the lower side, while 294hp is on the more optimistic side. Got people dyno chipped 20i to have 50+hp gain before and after. Yet there are people who dyno chipped 28i to only 280hp nia. Then again, dyno also have error. End of the day 20i is still just 20i, it will never be a 28i.

+1... finally someone who knows something and can contribute his knowledge relevant to this thread.
You are right.. the main difference i tink is that the boost is lower on the 320i.
what the piggyback does is up the boost by a fixed percentage. Thus the chipped 320 will gain say 30% power to 240hp and the 328 will gain 30% hp to 290hp.
This increase in boost will be allowed by the ecu becos theres some margin allowed being programmed in from the factory.
Too much increase in boost say 50% the ecu will sense something is wrong and will go into limp mode supposedly to protect the car.
Thus 320i cant simply be tuned to 290hp like the 28i engine because the ecu does not allow it(due to being sold as a 320i at lower profit), BUT the hardware(engine) is more than capable of it

just because some non 20i 's view are not in line with yours ...also no need to say they are threatened by you 20i ... not very friendly leh... they could just ignore your post totally but come in to share with you their experience on the non 20i doesnt make them sarcastic leh ....trust me you have yet to see the worst lolz
