Re: Degree no good ..... just get a good job

Some employers are also unrealistic and living in the 80s...

I have seen an ad for an In-house counsel position in jobsdb.com that goes something like this:

"Urgently looking for a highly qualified lawyer to join this up and coming locally listed company as legal counsel. Must have Master of Laws degree and at least 10 years post-qualification experience in top law firms or MNCs. Max salary $6000"

$6000?...

Perhaps the remunerations are offered in view of the availability of foreign talents?

Why do people go and do degrees and end up still go and sell property or sell insurance?

I am neither, but I wonder if there is a negative connotation to the two mentioned careers?

Re: Degree no good ..... just get a good job

I actually called the recruitment agency to ask just for fun and they said really...MAX $6000/month cos its a position with potential for alot of growth and the listed company would like the legal counsel to grow together with it as part of the family.

Ok I need a job not a family.

True story. I worked for a locally listed company before for about 6 months. I left so fast because the company was consistently 10-14 days late paying salaries to its employees and had to take out company loans to do so.

On business trips, the CEO took SQ Business Class while his accompanying sales guys took Jetstar or Tiger Air. Land at same airport about 30 mins apart. CEO had a limo waiting for him. His sales guys were asked to take taxi themselves. Hotels different also. CEO stayed in Hyatt, sales guys stayed in some Groupon type hotel.

Listed companies in Sg are very ngeow one

Re: Degree no good ..... just get a good job

I met an Indian FT who is working in Citibank as an IT programmer. He has 2 Masters.

How the local IT grads compete when the foreigners, who are more qualified, are asking for only half the pay a local grad will ask for?
