change trannsmission mount too as a pair ... swee swee :D

Re: Engine Mounting - replacement - BMW E90

Try to change it with the transmission mount as well, and maybe other wear and tear parts for preventative maintenance while they are at it.

Quite a bit of labour involved, since they have to disconnect quite a few things at the bottom of the car, to get at the mounts.

The parts below I got them from Eng Soon, and did it with a bunch of other stuff like control arm bushing, shocker absorber mounting etc.

FYR:
- 335 engine mounting RH 800001074, 1 pc $150
- 335 engine mounting 80000693, 1 pc $65
- gearbox mounting (A)1305001 2 pc x $14

Btw mine is e90 320i

Mine transmission mount was just replaced recently when I repaired some engine oil leak at the bottom at R2D.

Seniors
i had similar car-vibrating-experience on my 1yr3month old E90LCi; feels the same as when the engine mounts gave way on my old ride.
The weird thing is it stopped vibrating the morning after without doing anything other than turning the car off and starting the next morning.
Any idea what other potential issue could lead to such vibrations?
Thanks

Re: Engine Mounting - replacement - BMW E90

Sounds like engine mounting going to give way soon but still can use.
Anyone can advise?

Re: Engine Mounting - replacement - BMW E90

The mounts on my previous suspension-less Civic last for 4yrs. i would be unpleasantly surprised if the same can't live pass 1.5yrs on a beemer :(
Could it be mis-firing?

Re: Engine Mounting - replacement - BMW E90

Your 1 year old LCI e90 so new so unlikely mounts are going kaput. Mine on the other hand is a 6 years old car so different story.

The primary job for the engine/tranny mounts is to minimise the "twisting forces" when you gas the accelerator, but when stationery it could be different problem.

Best to bring it in to PML if it recurs, since your car must be under warranty. Let the experts solve it :)

Thanks for the advice. Yes the vibration seems to be only happening when stationary but not when the car is moving.
Will get them to check when i send in for servicing though i'm half suspecting i'll be told that there is no fault found.:errr:

PML???? experts???

Re: Engine Mounting - replacement - BMW E90

Hahaha, i know i am going to get flamed when i said the above.

Maybe i should remove the association between BMW "experts" and "PML" :)

For the interest of folks facing the same issue...
Sent in to PML and they say the rocker cover and/or gasket and vacuum pump are leaking.
thats why i felt the vibration.. and in fact i should at times sense a burning smell too :)
they'll be replacing the O-rings/ gasket etc under warranty.
how unfortunate..

That's a lot of damaged parts for a young car.

It sure is, considering i can even count the number of times the rpm climbs above 3500rpm..
and im still trying to convince myself that the vibration is due to leaks; i see no linkage anywhere...

quite common for the N46 engine.
had mine (rocker cover gasket and vacumn pump) replaced by PML just last week.
for vibration, i did experience suddenly split second vibrations for a few weeks every other day. but that seems to have been gone after the parts replacements. still monitoring the car to see if it comes back again.
