Yup, THAT is the car in question I'm sorry to say.

Was 300,000++km when I saw it in 2003 at turf city dealer.
Then about a week later + a new paintjob I saw it again at 160,000++ on the odo.
And the dealer couldnt even remember that he showed me the car a week ago, still dare to tell me mileage at 160,000 very acceptable.....wah lan!
Wonder what it's showing when the couple bought it.
I would expect the real true mileage to be at least 400,000km by now.
Feel sorry for them to be conned like that. but hopefully it's well taken care of......

When i bot my IS coupe, it was from another respectable forumer in BWM.SG and he was second owner. The first owner happened to be my colleague's husband so I could verify the mileage to be real.....
beware beware when buying from dealers............
E36 odos (mechanical) are easily adjustable unlike current digitised ones which are a lot harder to do. Do take odo readings of old cars with a big scoop of salt especially when coming from dealers, fellas.

It was pretty thrashed up when i saw it first time round. Paint job was scruffy with a scratch on the roof. then it was reprayed and the interior and engine bay given a steam cleaning by the second time i saw it. This was back in late 2002 early 2003. DEaler lied through the skin of his teeth.
unfortuately i dont know of any way to check beside knowing the previous owners.

Show me a pile of (genuine) receipts & I'll buy a "scruffy" car any day (esp. if it’s from the owner). High mileage alone is not the killer - its neglect that kills old cars (greatly compounded by reluctance to spend money on maintenance). That and thrashing it when cold.

Agree with what you say about maintenance and keeping receipts.
I always keep them to show how well car has been treated.
So after 8 pages, what is the major concern here:
1) A high mileage e36 that got tempered by dealers (or some dishonest owner)
2) A high mileage e36 that might turn off buyers all together from buying one...
?? - at 350,000 KM
