F30 Build Quality

Got my F30 328 M-sport for a week, but I have already discovered a few problems.

As you can see in the attached picture, the rubber seal in the C pillar door lining was not properly installed and already cracked open. View attachment 45852

As for the interior, I found the rear seats were poorly assembled, the leather wasn't even properly tucked in for 3 out of 4 child seat hooks.

The rear seats are hollow and loosely attached to rear bench, I can literally lift half of the seat without applying much force. The direct consequence of this is squeezing noise from the leather rubbing against the interior. Whenever I brake, going over some slightest bump, the rear seats will make those noises which are utterly annoying.

Anyone experienced similar problem, especially the latter? Does your interior give noises even under normal driving?
PML has promised to change the rubber seal for me, but I have no idea how the noise problem can be fixed.

My car is a 2012 Oct South Africa build, oktoberfest was also going on in that plant? These are problems I can easily see or hear, now I am worried about all the stuff I can't see... damn October build:(

imo, set your expectation & talk to ur SA. if not satisfy, go up the ladder... feel for you :(

Re: F30 Build Quality

i wldnt place the blame on oct....its like thai made jap cars...no matter how they convince its the same QC, parts...its jus not the same. btw tested the 320i last week..unconvinced of the build. seems some gap even against a 4.5yo 70k odo E60 tat i drive when running company errands.

Re: F30 Build Quality

Speechless for such a new model.........

Re: F30 Build Quality

south africa builds are like this. the 320s also

Re: F30 Build Quality

Seems like the QC at SA plant really not up to standard on BMW quality for F30 production. Rushing to meet the numbers maybe?

Read elsewhere F30 some batches have rusted seat buckets (underneath the carpet)?

I would go bang tables at PML and get them to rectify.

Re: F30 Build Quality

I know that some of the PML cars which were sold pursuant to the Christmas / year end PML promotion were actually display cars etc. With a display car, you will hundreds or butts, and pair of hands touching n feeling the display car, and if I am not wrong, perhaps some itchy fingers decided to peel the rubber seal, too many butts moving in and out of the rear seats caused the leather to come loose.... etc U get the picture.....

Re: F30 Build Quality

ouch dude... I'd get it rectified asap... I think Audi A4 interiors recently really are much nicer than the normal 3 series interior

agreed on display car, sometimes heng suay also, i bought a display car too, molested by many but luckily all with gentlemen/ ladies manners ;) ...best to talk to SA first before bang table.. like someone mentioned before, best to make friend first unless it don't work.

Re: F30 Build Quality

Do not bang table over small issues. Not worth to raise blood pressure. :)

Aren't showroom cars sold at a discount? If it is a showroom display car they have to tell you it is right?

Re: F30 Build Quality

Best to request PML to make good the defects. I have not owned Jap for quite a while but I don't recall Jap cars to have such quality issues either.
My past BMWs were made in South Africa, then Spartanburg then Leipzig - and in the same order of increasing build quality. Even then my South African model was not like what happened to your 328i.

yes, the SE will tell you. but i have never heard of a discount for that. but i guess, if you are buying a showroom unit, it's prob the last few units avail and you could nego a discount.

So suffice to say, if one purchases a supposedly "new" car, they are not suppose to give you a display car unless they specifically tell you that it is one?

Yup. In all my experience with PML, I have never had an SE not highlight units which are showroom cars. when you choose your colour choice etc, there is a list of avail units. they should tell you which are from the warehouse and which are display units.

That said, I have a friend who bought a limited edition Porsche which was the launch display car. No problems with it either.
